I can't believe the silence on this.
it was such a well made programme

I watched it, it made me very angry especially as she wasn't a teenager and should've known better.

She shouldn't have been sent to fight before her training was finished,it didn't matter how much she wanted to and begged.

The whole thing smacked of middle class girl playing at war .

Her poor,poor family Sad

I'll read the article in a bit, need to get tea on!

EleanorReally · 05/07/2019 17:31

no, she wasnt a teenager, she was 25 ! Shock she was like a teenager

I suppose it's the equivalent of when we used to want to rebel we'd travel, join a commune or whatever but now we have people running off to places where quite frankly they have no business to fight a war. God,it's made me SO cross that she could be so selfish. It's not bravery it's stupidity.

She didn't look well imo,a very small charitable part of me thinks maybe she had MH issues especially after her mother dying but the rest of me is just very frustrated she could be so selfish.

LoafofSellotape · 05/07/2019 18:08

Just read the article,if she hadn't gone off it would've have been something else, she was looking for trouble. Her dad couldn't have stopped her,she was 26.

EleanorReally · 05/07/2019 22:15

she was looking for trouble wasnt she, looking for a cause, be it veganism, womens rights,
which reminded me of my teenage dd and frankly worried me.

her poor family

Yes, exactly.

I hope your dd finds something safe to sink her teeth into.

Am I making a huge general sweeping statement when I say most of these people come from middle class back grounds? All the people I've known have been.

I'm still cross about it now which shows what a good programme it was.

Just so awful for her family.

twis · 06/07/2019 18:28

I think she did an amazing thing and stood up for what she believed in which was an amazing revolution. She was middle class but she was part of something great and hopefully the revolution will spread. I am grateful and many others are too. Anna was a good person who did really good things. Do you diss people joining the British or US army? Don't think so and those army's actually are fascist she was fighting for something amazing. Anna lives on forever and she rests in power.

LoafofSellotape · 06/07/2019 18:32

Do you diss people joining the British or US army? I'd 'diss' anyone who went off desperate to fight without adequate training, yes.

LoafofSellotape · 06/07/2019 18:35

Anna lives on forever and she rests in power except she doesn't and her family have to live with that.

twis · 06/07/2019 18:43

You're ignorant if you think they don't give you adequate (what does that even mean-only 1st world country run 😆) training and that it's better to fight for fascism than against it. You do know she died in an airstrike right nothing to do with her training. Also living on in power is different to living on in your body. 🙄

twis · 06/07/2019 18:44

You can live on in different ways to physically living on.

twis · 06/07/2019 18:45

Sh*tting on the thing she cared so passionately about that she died for the cause does not help her family's grieving either. In fact it's massively disrespectful.

I can disagree with what she did, I feel hugely sorry for her family and friends. It's not 'shitting' on anything.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 06/07/2019 19:01

I thought it was an amazing programme. I don't understand why people choose to join the army at all, any army, but I admire her for having the guts to go and literally fight for something she believed in so strongly. I couldn't do it.

That doesn't mean I don't understand why some people think she was wrong to go.

LoafofSellotape · 06/07/2019 19:01

I've asked for that post to be deleted, overly harsh.
