I think the interview with Y sums up how ambiguous the issues were between her and Danny. So much of their behaviour/chat was open to interpretation (theirs and ours) that I can see so many different stories, each narrative favouring its author.

rockingchaircandle · 26/06/2019 20:21

arsehole you're a charmer! But you're posting on a public forum, as am I.

I can't be 'light hearted' about racism or people dismissing racism, or piling on to someone who used the word Queen.

The best way to keep it lighthearted is not to simplify or dismiss arguments you've not bothered to understand. There's people very happy to have a rant about how they're fed up about it, but then expect no reply!

Zampa · 26/06/2019 20:21

some of you are way too close minded and frankly mean

I didn't think Anna and Amber were allowed to Mumsnet whilst in the villa?!

predictariotright · 26/06/2019 20:24

@Sagradafamiliar couldn't stay away could you 😂

Rocking I have to wonder what it is about Yewande and what she represents makes people so very annoyed and angry, to the point of DENYING the black community and it would seem, racism. The vogue article was spot on. Flippantly ignoring issues as they are boring and not light and fluffy enough. I stopped posting on the last thread and still it continues and it continues here as well. Some individuals can't resist showing their true colours!

Sagradafamiliar · 26/06/2019 20:27

No, I couldn't. Not when this shit is still happening.

arseholewednesday · 26/06/2019 20:29

@rockingchaircandle @Sagradafamiliar

Explain your position, I'm listening.

Fwiw, I haven't seen anyone denying communities or that racism exists, but you feel differently, so please explain.

OP posts:
Sagradafamiliar · 26/06/2019 20:33

You're joking aren't you. It's not my job.
Scroll back and read for yourself whoever it was kicking off because someone mentioned 'black community' and said we are supposed to be one. That is mortifying. I benefit from white privilege myself but I'm ashamed these attitudes still exist, unapologetically on public forums no less.

Theknacktoflying · 26/06/2019 20:36

The show is also ageist, fat-ist and and as much as I agree that casual any-ism should be called out ....

What would be your solution to this .... Yewanda was given the option of coupling up with 5 men at the beginning ...

arseholewednesday · 26/06/2019 20:37

@Sagradafamiliar No, I wasn't joking. I asked for your opinion and an explanation from your point of view. But oh well.

I’m a lurker so first time posting on these threads.

People can agree with the vogue article, and I think it makes a good point, without wanting it discussed at every turn. These are supposed to be threads to discuss the show not just one person over and over again.

Black people do worse on reality TV shows, generally, than white people. The only ones who come to mind who didn’t are Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke (on X factor not strictly), and Fleur East. I don’t think anyone is disputing this, but people are allowed to discuss other things without being racist.

ProteinshakesandAntonsbum · 26/06/2019 20:38

Anyway.....I am gutted I cant watch it tonight.

Promised Dp I would socialise with his family tonight. I adore them and I need to get back to socialising. I keep looking at Dp and saying 'but.....love island'.

He keeps smiling and saying 'but......you need to get out of the house, love'

Hate it when he is right and I have to watch love island late!Grin

rockingchaircandle · 26/06/2019 20:38

Ha, this is so weirdly arrogant! You can read all the threads and previous discussions, articles, links etc including your own posts. You need to think though, and you seem to leap to outrage instead.

Starting a thread seems to have gone to your head - telling people to leave, what words can be used, and now to explain themselves. You've turned into some bizarre primary school teacher!

arseholewednesday · 26/06/2019 20:40

@ProteinshakesandAntonsbum! So sad.. but you get to watch two tomorrow

How many islanders are there at the moment?

OP posts:
loveya · 26/06/2019 20:41

@rockingchaircandle wow just wow... so are you telling us we can't develop an opinion of what we see and read? I mean yes we don't see the full 24hours and we know part of the show is manipulated by producers but that doesn't mean we can't develop opinions...

Please take a chill pill or something and lighten the fk up...

rockingchaircandle · 26/06/2019 20:43

Definitely, lots of other stuff to be discussed, and it's way more fun to do that!

But I've only responded to people who've raised or misrepresented the racism issue. Some people rant about it all being bollocks, then decide the discussions over.

arseholewednesday · 26/06/2019 20:44

Starting a thread seems to have gone to your head - telling people to leave,

Person. Only one. I said GTFO. It's a lighthearted old school internetism.

OP posts:
ProteinshakesandAntonsbum · 26/06/2019 20:44

MynameisJune dont say that. I suggested these posters had valid points and if the wanted to discuss these points in general, like why black contestants dont do well in reality shows, why they are that many contestants to start with, they may be best starting a thread discussing just that. As people here didnt want to go through it all again. I think that discussion has merit.

That got turned into 'I got told to leave the thread and start my own....I am off' from several posters.

I agree thisbusnt the place to keep discussing it again and again.

I come from a marginalised group of people. I am fed up of every thread discussing the same thing on every thread.

And if you disagree you are told 'see you just cant see that you are racist'

rockingchaircandle · 26/06/2019 20:45

loveya genuinely no idea what you mean, but very happy to end any interaction between us here and now!

I watched clips of previous years where they read out tweets/what other islanders have said, and i forgot how ruthless they were, especially in the earlier series!

Sagradafamiliar · 26/06/2019 20:46

But I didn't owe you one, arsehole. Oh well.

arseholewednesday · 26/06/2019 20:47

@Sagradafamiliar I never said you owed me anything, I was starting a conversation about your views. You complain that issues go unheard, but are unwilling to talk about them. YAWN YAWN YAWN
