I've just finished watching this.
I want expecting those scenes 😱
Don't think I can even remember watching scenes that shocking before
So hard to watch

It's brilliant isn't it, I remember feeling really uncomfortable about those scenes, recommend the last series This is England 90.

purpleme12 · 25/06/2019 11:34

I've just started watching 88 one

Watched it when it first came out and it has stayed with me since. I think Vicky McCLure and Stephen Graham are the best actors of their generation.

nowifi · 25/06/2019 11:47

The Virtues by Shane Meadows is really good too, similarly depressing but good!

purpleme12 · 25/06/2019 11:48

No I've seen that I want that impressed with that really. I mean it was ok but it wasn't great

Watching This is England 88 and keep thinking that nurse is so familiar I've realised she's the same woman from The Virtues

Absolutely brilliant.
I only watched it for the first time a couple of years ago.
So glad I did!

purpleme12 · 25/06/2019 21:46

Shane Meadows likes to use the same people doesn't he.

It's funny though isn't it that a lot of the actors haven't had a lot of acting after this if any. You'd have thought they would have.
(I know a few have been successful after)

Finished watching 88! Just got the last one to go now. This is a bit addictive I'm going to have to pace myself!

Yes the nurse was not even an actor, he met her in a pub in Ireland and she gave him her number as she'd done some local amateur dramatics then he gave her a call! Think the fact he uses such real people really comes across in his shows. Also have read far too much about all his work clearly😁

purpleme12 · 25/06/2019 22:37

I just can't help feeling a bit sad that a lot of them didn't get more acting roles after! Perhaps I'm overinvested!

It's fantastic.
There's a film aswell set before 86.

purpleme12 · 26/06/2019 07:07

Darksideofthemoon19 · 26/06/2019 08:02

One of my favourite programmes ever.

purpleme12 · 26/06/2019 09:34

Yes the film is a brilliant film. I saw it when I was living abroad.

Trevs rape is one of the most chilling things I've ever watched. I don't know if it struck a chord with me or what but it s my tv moment I can't forget.

purpleme12 · 26/06/2019 09:48

Yes very chilling. And with Lol too

purpleme12 · 26/06/2019 11:02

It must have been really hard to film those scenes

I loved it. I'd recommend Dead Man's Shoes too.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/06/2019 12:40

You might enjoy Tyrranosaur too

northernstars · 01/07/2019 18:45

I rewatched all the This is England series after The Virtues - then I deleted Handsmaid Tale from the planner - couldn't take any more misery.

purpleme12 · 01/07/2019 23:16

I haven't had time to watch the rest of 90 yet. Hopefully this week

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 04/07/2019 14:33

I've watched all the series.

Very disturbing watching Combo being taken away in the end.

But very good series (all of them) it's the characters that make it so good I think
