Well that was a bit of a damp squib eh. Did they run out of budget for the battle or something?

My thoughts exactly! The plot seemed to be going round in circles for so long. And then it just stopped!

Episode seven just lost me. I couldn't quite see where they were going. It was just odd. Shame really. Considering BBC1 did "Banished" and that was cancelled, it's amazing things like Jamestown get to keep going despite the terrible writing

They never found the slavers they went looking up the river for. The business with Ben Batt being the King’s Agent never really played out. We never saw Temperance and Mercy, and the Native American lady married to the Sharrock blokey, have their babies. I really wanted the other Sharrock brother’s wife to come back from England. And I wanted the nice Irish lady married to the drunk to have a baby.

It’s all very unsatisfactory.

In real life, the natives didn't manage to get into Jamestown. They killed hundreds of people in one day in the surrounding areas/settlements, but anyone who made it back to Jamestown survived because it was a fortress. This was followed by a ten year war, which the programme probably didn't want to cover as it would be hard to keep all the storylines/character arcs going so the end of season 3 proved to be a suitable cut off point. I dont know how much fighting actually took place around the settlement, so showing the war could have made it less about Jamestown. It doesnt show the British in a good light either. Before the end of the 1600s, we had pretty much wiped out an entire culture. They were doing well in terms of reviews/viewing figures, so they also probably decided to bow out gracefully instead of becoming another tv show that gets axed after making one or two series too many.

I am gutted that Pedro died though. I know that slaves back then didn't normally get a happy ending, but I really wanted him and Maria to escape and be free again.
