Looked for a thread but couldn’t find one.

I’ve just finished the Netflix series and loved it. I love the books and was wary of the new series but they got it so right. The new characters were great and they kept the continuity of the original ones.

The flashback episode was heartbreakingly sad in places and I’m so glad she gave Ysela Barbary Lane at the end. Part of me was assuming it would be left to Michael but Ysela was a great choice.

Netflix described it as a limited series and I’m guessing it won’t come back but I really want it to.

It's confusing that the ages and back stories are ever so slightly different from the earlier series. So Anna was originally 44 when she transitioned but in this latest go was what - under 30? And Mona was supposed to be 2 when she left, but could talk on the phone in the new one but in the first series was knocking 30, 14 years after Anna left. And the changes in actors between series is confusing but it was nice to see the original Brian back in this version.

I gave up half way through the second episode. Seemed really bland and lacking heart compared to before.

I'm interested to read you say that. I really enjoyed the earlier books and the first three series. However, I found the later books (from Michael Tolliver Lives) to be just okay, and for me, "The Days of Anna Madrigal" was almost unreadable. I thought it was a case of you can't go home again. (I only just discovered that there was a new Cazalet book written in 2012, and I'm tossing up whether or not to read it).

However, I might give the Netflix series a go.

I loved the original but couldn't get into this at all,I found it so dull which is a shame as I was so looking forward to it.

Just in case you aren't aware, the first 2 series are both available on All4!

Just watched this. I'm enough of a fan to not mind some of the silly bits and can overlook them because I love the original characters so much. The Claire Duncan storyline was cartoonish and ridiculous at the end, however I loved the flashbacks to young Anna and the ending was appropriate.
Sad it's over!
