I can't see another thread on this. Has anyone else been watching the latest series? Unfortunately only 2 episodes for us in the UK - I think the Italians had shorter episodes and therefore more of them.
I love Montalbano and it was interesting to see all the actors looking so much older. I am still enjoying it as much as the previous series though last night was quite sombre. I don't like the new Livia.

Oh dear. I didn't realise there would only be two. I have now seen them both. The new Livia doesn't really work for me either.

She's a bit cold, isn't she? And I don't think they look much like a real couple - a bit separate - so maybe Luca Zingaretti doesn't warm to her either. However, I don't think I really like the character - she is such a moody piece of work, so perhaps I'm being unfair to the actress. SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET - I loved the scene with the cannoli that Montalbano shared with the others in memory of Dr Pasquano!

I watched out of sequence, 2 before 1 and didn't realise until now you mention it, the significance of the cannoli scene.

Swoopinggulls · 10/06/2019 18:44

It was a really moving episode and I loved the scene with the cannoli too.
The only Livia I've really liked was the one in the young version.

Livedandlearned · 11/06/2019 17:08

I didn't warm to any of the Livias, I love all the rest of the characters though. I'm a bit sad to hear there were only two episodes, what a shame.

CarolinePooter · 11/06/2019 17:27

Yes! Have loved the books for years, but the TV adaptations are just as good IMO.

I did enjoy Young Montalbano , too. The casting was very believable...they even found an actor with slightly bandy legs to play our hero!

Livedandlearned · 15/06/2019 19:06

Just realised that Montalbano is on tonight! Yay!!

CarolinePooter · 15/06/2019 19:14

Ooh how exciting! I thought there were only 2 new episodes...off to set the recorder :-)

Peregrina · 15/06/2019 23:13

I think it must have been an older series, but not one shown in the UK. Two things make me think this - Pasquale is in it, and the final music for the last two weeks was different.

Peregrina · 15/06/2019 23:17

Yes, just checked - this was series 4 episode one. Last weeks' was series 6. It was confusing because he'd been away last week, but that was to somewhere near the Croatian border, whereas this week he had returned from Genoa.

Horsemad · 15/06/2019 23:32

Tonight's episode has been on UK TV before; as soon as it started I remembered it.

Peregrina · 15/06/2019 23:35

Yes, looking back it said it was a repeat, but we missed it last time.

Horsemad · 15/06/2019 23:57

I hope they make some new ones soon. 🙂 Think I'll read the books to get a fix that way too!

CarolinePooter · 16/06/2019 09:04

The books are excellent horse !

In similar vein, has anyone seen the Brunetti DVDs from Donna Leon's books? I was put off by them being in German, but was considering buying them just for the scenery! Apparently the casting is pretty good.

Peregrina · 16/06/2019 13:33

I like the way all the series are faithful to the books. Unlike when the BBC does Agatha Christie and keeps the title but rewrites the story.

CarolinePooter · 16/06/2019 13:43

Indeed, why bother? Totally ruins them.

IrishGal21 · 17/06/2019 00:33

other thread with an interview....in italiano sorry www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3598485-Inspector-Montalbano-new-series?watched=1&msgid=87445989#87445989

CarolinePooter · 17/06/2019 08:41

Thanks Gal I hadn't spotted that!

Horsemad · 20/07/2019 23:09

I just read that the author Andrea Camilleri has died. ☹️

timeforakinderworld · 20/07/2019 23:15

I've just read my first Montalbano book and really enjoyed it - but where to start with the tv series? Is it better to watch young Montalbano first?

TheRedBarrows · 20/07/2019 23:21

Anyone know where it is filmed ?

Horsemad · 21/07/2019 00:12

Not sure where on Sicily it is filmed. I believe you can stay in the hotel/B&B where the scenes for his apartment are filmed.

As for which to watch first, I don't know!
