AIBU to think i must be in the minority to not be even the remotest bit interested in watching Love Island?

I have seen literally post after post across my Social Media about how excited they are waiting for 9PM, please can someone explain why i am missing out?

Never watched it, never will.

dragonflyflew · 04/06/2019 22:30

I have nil interest. I enjoyed the first ever ‘celebrity’ series but that was yonks ago.
I recently watched a dispatches show which loosely linked two suicides to it as well as someone else purporting to have mental health issues linked to her appearance in the show.

SgtFredColon · 04/06/2019 22:31

I know lots of people that don’t want it. You’re not that rare.

WhatHaveIFound · 04/06/2019 22:33

Zero interest here too. I am quietly seething that my DD is watching it despite always telling me that she never has any spare time to learn her driving theory.

happyhillock · 04/06/2019 22:36

I've never watched it and don't intend to either, none of my friend's watch it, don't know anyone who does.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/06/2019 22:54

I put it on last year to see what all the fuss was about .... hooked instantly.

It's pure mindless escapism that is like being Uber nosey!

puddleduckmummy · 04/06/2019 23:06

Do not get the hype, it doesn't appeal in the slightest. But people like different things so each to their own. What I don't like is people who do watch keep trying to talk to me about it and tell me to watch it! For the eleventy billionth time, no I don't want to, it's not what I am interested in!

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/06/2019 23:09

I watched the first one a million years ago with Lee Sharpe and Abi Titmus! And then steered clear until last year. At least I can talk to the teenagers at school about something - and I do know one of the contestants this year (well I did when he was a kid)

userxx · 04/06/2019 23:12

I remember the lee sharpe one! Not watched it for years and have no Interest in it at all, it's all a bit too fame hungry and OTT for me.

ThinThighsPlease · 04/06/2019 23:19

It's shallow, depressing bullshit. I hate it.

mooncuplanding · 04/06/2019 23:19

Its strangely addictive. Something about seeing young 'uns with all their bravado and paranoid manicuring trying to look perfect but always ending up being like the rest of us with insecurities and imperfections.

It's also that human paranoia we all have about being 'attractive enough' for someone else to want us - on steroids. And obviously they all try not to be bothered, when they 'aren't attractive enough' (get picked) but we can all tell they are and so actually are human beings not what people who don't watch it say about them.

Its like a basic human nature programme.

toffee1000 · 04/06/2019 23:20

Never watched it either. Not my thing. It just seems so shallow.

Bluerussian · 04/06/2019 23:32

I don't watch it but have seen snatches a long time ago and was appalled so, no, would never knowingly put it on. I don't understand why people do.

Walney · 05/06/2019 12:06

Never watched it and think its a terrible show, previous contestants have suffered from mental health issues because of it and its incredibly shallow and unpleasant. I just don't understand the appeal of watching it.
