My mum was howling at this programme so now watching.

It's my dad to a tee. He wants the gadgets but can never work them.

I think it's hilarious - and the OAPs are definitely coming off best!

So many gadgets (of all types) are ridiculous when you look at what they achieve versus how long it takes to set them up, maintain them, find room for them - and of course earn the money to buy them in the first place.

Then there is the rhetorical question which Michael Whitehall posed during the programme: "What are they saving time for?". I've often wondered about the slight insanity of using gadgets to save effort (remote controls/smart devices to save crossing a room or moving somewhere else in the house) and then spending the saved time in the gym for fear of becoming unfit.

These 'OAPs' are all intelligent people and used to being filmed, so they're having fun clowning around and sending up the whole concept of older people versus new technology - and the result is highly amusing.

However the reality (pun inadvertent) is there, and older people aren't necessarily not au fait with technology - and younger people do often use technology when it's unnecessary and make themselves look rather silly in the process...
