I liked the primary school act. Yes, the singing was enthusiastic rather than good but there was just something about it which touched me. Thought the headteacher was fab.

Hazlenutpie · 07/04/2019 21:30

I absolutely loved the whole show, entertainment at its best. I still have a massive smile on my face from the golden buzzer act. God bless that head teacher.

WellGoshDarnIt · 07/04/2019 22:13

I must be a miserable bitch too as I also hated the golden buzzer act. Even my 10 year old said, "but they've just ripped off the Sainsbury's ad and Nativity surely?" Nothing remotely original there whatsoever and that headteacher just looked like someone who was absolutely desperate to get on the telly.
On the other hand, the 18 year old opera singer was fantastic - just hope she sings a better song in the next round!

thatsnotmynewusername · 08/04/2019 00:11

the golden buzzer act - I thought it was really fun, a feel good song, the kids were sweet and made me smile, and the head teacher was great......BUT is this the best talent? Not really. And I thought Amanda's laughing and reactions were sooo OTT and I thought Davids crying was fake as well. (meow) I was out of the room at the beginning so guessed there was some inevitable sob story to go with it...but there wasn't , so I didn't find it particularly emotional.

BGT - if you're under 10 or over 65, or have a dog you can do whatever you want and they will think you're amazing!

GunpowderGelatine · 08/04/2019 00:14

My DD is in year 1 and her class could cobble together a better effort in 10 minutes I work in a school and whilst a "wacky teacher" is all well and fun to watch they're a fucking PITA to work with at the best of times. Cocking about getting staff to make a mobile phone costume out of cardboard for tomorrow's assembly. No thanks. Off you fuck

GunpowderGelatine · 08/04/2019 00:15

Also the "scary" act was crap. It was a trick cigar box and two women switched places in the dark. I've seen a Penn and Teller show where Teller did the same trick except in the light when people were watching him. Just changed into another person! "Elizabeth" sucks

Hazlenutpie · 08/04/2019 07:24

If you don’t like it, why the fuck watch? I just sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

LizzieMacQueen · 08/04/2019 07:54

I thought with the ghost woman it was incredibly easy to see how she did it. As @CalmConfident says above, fake lid in box so she knew exactly what photo would fall out.

I liked the primary school act, missed that they got the golden buzzer. Was that David? Very like the Sainsbury ad and the film Nativity. The headteacher even looked a bit like one of the actors. The bit with Dec in the bin was a genius touch.

One act I didn't particularly like was the ventriloquist. It wouldn't have been as good with just 2 regular audience members, or without David hamming it up. I'm sure there's been similar on before yet Simon said it was original !?

And talking of unoriginal acts - those 2 balancing on heads? Didn't we have exactly that last year?

LindaLa · 08/04/2019 08:38

Wouldn't you have slapped the "ghost"?
I know I would've (horrendous Holden would've too back in the day, not just her face and age have changed).

Confused

Well, it's a variety show and we're unsure what comes on. I think it would be a little odd to turn the channel over for 1 minute because I wasn't enjoying an act. Not everyone has to like every act. Calm down

GunpowderGelatine · 08/04/2019 09:19

@thatsnotmynewusername yes Williams was definitely fake crying (or he's a very ugly cryer 🙊)

cushellekoala · 08/04/2019 10:37

I watch because its something we all even DH who would never admit it enjoy. Dc like it and we all try to guess a) what they're going to do and b) whether they'll be awful!! Thats half the fun. If everyone was amazing it wouldn't be good tv. ....Although how gutting if you were truly talented and didnt get through, then saw the dalek or (from a previous series) the bloke who farted to music!

Lalallama · 08/04/2019 10:59

It felt like a lot of the acts were very obvious copies of other better acts. The kids doing Nativity/Sainsbury's advert, the women who was trying to be Victoria Wood. And the ventriloquist was a direct copy of - I'm amazed the judges thought it was original.

Although I guess it's difficult to be original unless you do things like putting a tin bowl over your knackers and hitting it with a stick.
