So if anyone out there could fill me in on what on Earth that was all about that would be ace! I’m at a complete loss.

TheFirstOHN · 28/03/2019 20:46

Did you watch Season 1?
I've only seen one episode of Season 2 so far.

gubbsywubbsy · 28/03/2019 20:53

It's bonkers isn't it .. series 1 was weird but two in nuts . The octopus 🤣🤣.. what was that all about !!??

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/03/2019 20:57

It was craat stuff.
I did enjoy it. But regretted not watching the first one season again first as it referred back a lot.
The octopus was beyond weird.

Not sure whether there will be a third but I was definitely left with very few answers at the end of season 2.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 28/03/2019 20:59

It wasn't a patch on series one.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/03/2019 21:05

Crazy stuff

NuclearReactor · 28/03/2019 21:29

I watched season 1 but I'm totally confused by season 2 with the app game? Was this what they were all playing in the Attic together? I thought they all had to leave their front doors open?

BartonHollow · 31/03/2019 00:40

ENTIRE POST CONTAINS SPOILERS

To "lightly summarise" for OP. @EdmundSlackbladder as per request

When Hap threw OA out of his car he stole her movement and travelled with Homer, Rachel, Scott And Renata to another dimension were they all assumed the identities of other versions of theirselves in a PU, and were aware they'd done this, except for Homer who remain his PU self and was not overwritten by Original Homer.

For Renata, Scott and Rachel this was merely swapping one prison for another as they became psych patients instead of hostages. Hap found that he had become a preeminent and celebrated psychiatrist in this life. Hap researched into OA in this reality found Nina and found her living a very different life.

Nina was engaged to Pierre Ruskin, exceptionally wealthy and culturally Russian, never had an NDE etc.

New Hap Met them socially after real Nina read his book, he inveigled his way into their lives, planted the puzzle app, that harvests kids into Ruskins subconscious during therapy. He made sure that he was the first person that Ruskin would turn to if "Nina became psychotic" aka got overwritten by Prairie.

Even though Nina is not OA she is considered supernaturally gifted in the Russian community (psychic octopus, worst bit in the show, very jump the shark) and obviously has a regular "bit" at the club.

Prairie/OA transferred into Nina on the Ferry, at the point she was shot in Season 1, and overwrote Nina's subconscious.

Nina's bloke owns the app company and they record people's dreams with Silent Witness lady. The house is built on a Native American sweat lodge type place. Ruskin/Hap is using the kids to solve the puzzle which involves finding "the Rose Window" - kids are dying due to mercury poisoning.

All the young people from S1 have been sucked in by the puzzle in the parallel universe due to meeting OA in their primary universe.

FBI man is some kind of angel. French woman who is a traveller got on to Hap and legged it.

Homer has become too suspicious of Hap so Hap offers to release Scott, but not Renata, Scott says he will help him one last time if he will also free Renata and they try and access the house.

French woman gets OA to merge with Nina.
By doing this they manage to get Homer to merge with his two selves.

Rachel said it's only safe for BBA to travel because the others are all trapped but somehow Steve and Buck have managed it.

Karim gets to the Rose Window, he unifies Buck and Michelle after seeing Hap and Nina/OA jump to a world were they are both successful actors making a film about this exact premise.

JASON ISAACS PLAYING HAP IS NOW HAP PLAYING JASON ISAACS 🔥😂🤯

Clearly the OA, Hap, Steve And Buck have all made it to that universe, others unknown.

Fucking class!

BartonHollow · 31/03/2019 02:03

Also was answering a direct question posed in the OP, by the OP so if there are complaints about spoilers, MNHQ will add a spoiler warning at the request of OP.

I will be thinking about this series for weeks, even with the bum note of the octopus it's a big step up from Series 1.

BartonHollow · 31/03/2019 02:09

@NuclearReactor

No the app game is solely from the universe with Nina and Ruskin and was designed by new universe Hap to harvest traveller types.

French woman tells Prairie in the bar that by involving Steve, Buck, French, BBA and Jesse in that universe, they have become part of her constellation and are connected across the multiverse.

This means that every single one was separately lured in by the app game in the new universe, with the exception of BBA, who probably wouldn't have come across it as she's not in youth culture, which is why Rachel said she was the only one who could travel because the others were all trapped in the puzzle

EdmundSlackbladder · 31/03/2019 09:53

Amazing synopsis, thanks. I enjoyed and perhaps should have paid more attention. Have a bad habit of doing crosswords whilst I watch a show. Agree about the octopus. WTF?!

NuclearReactor · 31/03/2019 12:55

@BartonHollow thank you! Makes more sense now.

EdmundSlackbladder · 31/03/2019 17:23

Loved season 1, enjoyed all the storytelling bits. Enjoyed season 2 as well, but it was waaaaaaay out there.

OP posts:
LuggsaysNotaWomen · 31/03/2019 17:29

I really enjoyed it (even the Octopus which was admittedly a wtf nomment but I like that they take risks as storytellers and have gone full batshit).

It is a series that you have to concentrate during. I think I understood it but I’m defo going to rewatch both seasons to see if I missed anything.

Ledehe · 31/03/2019 17:31

It was like a completely different show. I'm not sure if I enjoyed it.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 31/03/2019 17:34

I’ll be so miffed if they don’t get to do the whole five seasons - I really want to see how the whole thing plays out in fact I would threaten to cancel my Netflix account if they did but I’m using my brothers so somewhat of an empty threat.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 31/03/2019 17:36

I think it’s deliberatly different each season to reflect the different dimensions. They use colour palettes to signify it too. Season one was mostly purples and dark red, season two was dark reds and oranges.

RustyParker · 01/04/2019 18:06

That's a great synopsis Barton, thanks!

So much went over my head; does anyone know what what the lumnious flower / petal was that Hap ate in the last episode? And the whole seed / flower garden thing was? (I know they were trapped in the puzzle but I couldn't make out what Hap was saying about what the flower garden means).

There are some brilliant fan theories on the official OA Facebook page!

BartonHollow · 01/04/2019 19:59

FWIW : My perspective on the Flower Petal Tank @RustyParker which I agree isn't well explained so I can't even say for definite I'm correct.

Hap in the New Universe, is seeking a way to travel without Scott, Rachel, Homer and Renata, because Homer is out of action.

So he designs the game with Ruskin and Nina and Silent Witness Lady, to find more travellers - some of them just become dreamers, the ones that drew Karim's face but a handful, our friends from Season 1 made it to the Rose Window, were they collapsed and Hap then experimented on them and plugged them into the tank, the flowers grew, and his/their plan was to ingest the flowers to travel I think, because Nina was a willing participant in this experiment in this universe, before Prairie broke through.

Rachel saw the tanks before he killed her which is why she knew only BBA was safe.

Then French Lady showed up with her mechanical boxes and he realised he didn't need other people to travel anymore but he's still obsessed with being with OA because he really doesn't accept that she hates his guts, in fact they've now jumped to his dream scenario where they are romantically involved.

Hap no longer needed the tanks, because he'd found a quicker and simpler method, but double bluffed Scott into believing he would escape to dispose of him into the tanks as a threat to Homer's ignorance, because Hap wasn't ready to travel without OA.

I think that's it Smile

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 02/04/2019 14:53

What BartonHollow said and...

The flowers are a biological map if the multiverse. So when HAP ate a flower he got a glimpse of another dimension. Because the OA was able to deliberatly jump to the dimension Homer was in by focusing on him, HAP worked out that he could use this info to pick a dimension where he and the OA are not against each other and jump to it with her.

All the people who managed to get to he rose window were somehow connected to the OA and therefore angels incarnate themselves which is possibly why they grew the flowers after they died.

RustyParker · 02/04/2019 17:14

Thank you so much Barton and Lugg for that the time to share your thoughts. I almost feel I was watching a different programme as your explanations went almost completely over my head when watching the show. You've really helped me make sense of it, thank you!

I read 5 seasons are already planned and ready to film.

BartonHollow · 02/04/2019 18:36

I had another thought before I opened the thread to read new posts...

In S1, even though she is his hostage Hap is desperately in love with OA and doesn't want her to see him as a villain, he according to Jason Isaacs sees himself as a hero because he means to cure death.

In Season 2, I think we are to surmise that prior to us as viewers arriving in that universe , Nina had cheated on Ruskin with Percy, maybe before he was even Hap, it depends when the book was written. But he didn't really want Nina he wanted OA which is why he shows physical visible relief when Nina shows she is also Prairie. I don't think Hap realises they have merged or that you can even do that and thinks OA was pretending to be Nina. He hasn't merged with any better self.

In Season 3, Hap as Jason and OA as Brit 🤯 are a married couple

So, in situations where he isn't evil and warped and she isn't his victim.... she LOVES him.

Christ it's weird. But brilliant.

RustyParker · 04/04/2019 16:36

Season 3 is going to be mind blowing with Brit and Jason married!

It's such a breath of fresh air to watch something which makes you think (even though I'm crap at working out the answers!).

It is conflicting to think of Hap as a hero; He is motivated to solving "death" and exploring inter-dimensional travel and history tells us that great innovators are risk takers, at the boundaries of cultural norms whose experiments make great leaps in our understanding of the world but of course, it doesn't follow that these people are "nice" people. He is ruthless and playing with others lives but he believes his work is worth their suffering without their consent. He is desperate for OA's approval.

I'm intrigued to see what Karim's role will be in Season 3.

gubbsywubbsy · 05/04/2019 08:59

I've just finished it .. totally crazy but very clever .. any opinions on how season 3 will go .🤔

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/04/2019 09:06

Half way through season 2, love it. Not RTFT as I don't want spoilers,I'll report back when I've finished.

BartonHollow · 05/04/2019 09:28

Jason said they have 5 mapped out and they are all different - obviously this is going to be based in and around the creative industry.

Confused is Homer like a random maybe even homeless guy that Hollywood Star Brit leaves her husband for?!
