Bit the bullet and signed up.

2 questions -

1 how do I know which shows are free? Been caught out with Amazon before and bought stuff I thought was free

2 which shows are on there you think I'll like? Based on:

Shows I already watch/like:

Friends
Charmed
Gilmore girls
White collar
Death in paradise
Endeavour/morse/Lewis
Broadchurch
The good wife
Lie to me
Scorpion
Jonathan creek
Sherlock
Bones
Prison break (though it jumped shark at end)
Stranger things
Unforgotten
Call the midwife
Scream tv series
Jane the Virgin
Suits

NOT for me (either I don't like subject matter and won't watch or couldn't get into)

Oitnb
Breaking bad/better call Saul - basically anything that glorifies drug use/dealing I'm not interested
Pretty little things
Once upon a time - went off it
Grimm

So what should I try?

Outlander. Am now waiting for season 5 to hurry up.

Afternoonteaandicecream · 25/03/2019 21:33

Posted too soon. Meant to say hurry up and start.

Moominfan · 25/03/2019 21:36

American gods

Graphista · 25/03/2019 21:37

The Bold Type - not as fluffy as you think it's going to be.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/03/2019 21:39

Supernatural. It's all on there and included with Prime membership at the moment - and it'll keep you going forever.

Graphista · 25/03/2019 21:40

If it says "season 1-3 included with prime" does that mean it's free/no additional cost?

OP posts:
Graphista · 25/03/2019 21:42

I've fancied supernatural for ages but cos what's on tv when I finally found it was like 10 seasons in I didn't think I'd understand what was going on but I caught odd episodes and liked.

What's the bold type about?

The marvelous Mrs Maisel. Same writer as Gilmore girls

Graphista · 25/03/2019 21:43

Awww the mentalist! Love that show!

Outlander
Vikings is brilliant too
Big Little Lies (bought that but it was brill)
Agents of Shield is on there if you like Marvel
Recently watched New Amsterdam and now bingeing the entire of Grey’s Anatomy
If it had the prime tag in the corner it’s included, if it’s extra you generally have to push a button confirming you’ve bought/rented it in SD or HD.

Graphista · 25/03/2019 21:47

Prime tag?

OP posts:
camelfinger · 25/03/2019 21:50

There’s a white diagonal stripe on the left hand corner that says prime on it.

afrikat · 25/03/2019 21:53

Definitely Outlander

Then start Supernatural. Should keep you busy for most of the year 😁

Graphista · 25/03/2019 21:53

Thanks I'm terrified of accidentally running up a big bill!

OP posts:
Graphista · 25/03/2019 21:54

Yay looks like scandal is included?

Graphista · 25/03/2019 22:11

I was going to suggest Lie to Me after I saw it recommended on another thread and have been binge-watchinf it since, but the OP has already seen it!

Moominfan · 26/03/2019 08:24

Ooh yea second vikings! It's amazing.

Outlander book turned tv series. Love story through different times. I got up to season 3 and called it a day.

American gods Neil gaiman book about old School gods vs new gods

Kam610 · 26/03/2019 08:28

The US Office. We have just finished it and loved it! The first series is a bit slow to get going but worth persevering !

Justonemorepancake · 26/03/2019 08:29

The Marvellous Mrs Maisel is just brilliant

Graphista · 26/03/2019 09:28

Lie to me is a fantastic show! Shame it got cancelled (this is always happening to me. find a show I love and it gets cancelled! Most recently travellers)

Mrs maisel I'm not sure about seems similar to mad men which I tried but just couldn't get into.

I'm sure there are thousands of studies as to why certain tv shows "work" and others don't, I seem as a viewer to be the perfect person to find what WON'T be the next big thing!

So many shows that have been extremely popular I've tried and they're just not for me. To the point I now tend to avoid the ones with the biggest "buzz" now.

Though sometimes it's because I hear things that put me off, mainly where unsavoury subject matter (drugs, rape, dv) is glamourised or at least not portrayed negatively as it should be.
