Have been “aware” of references to this show, but have never watched it.

Is it worth downloading and binge watching over the coming weeks? Think I’ve seen that final season is this year, so just wondering whether to catch up with everyone else and see what it’s all about.

I do love a good binge watch - 24, Alias, walking dead, fear the walking dead, the strain, etc. Just not sure about the setting of this one as not a big fan of “historical/ancient” times

So: feel free to convince or dissuade me!!

It’s the best tv I have ever watched!! And I have watched at lot of tv in my time!! It took me about the first three shows in season one before I was completely hooked !!

Limaloma1 · 04/03/2019 16:05

Hi,
I would definitely recommend it too. Historical tv dramas are not my thing either but this is one of the best tv shows ever for me. I agree with Nanalisa that you need to stick with it for the first couple of episodes then it becomes addictive. Im quite envious of you having all 7 seasons to watch in one go!

TheQueef · 04/03/2019 16:06

Set aside some time, you will love it!

winsinbin · 04/03/2019 16:48

Do it. My DD has been binge watching to be up to date when the new series starts and I’ve really enjoyed watching some of them again. I had forgotten so much.

BanginHeadache · 04/03/2019 16:56

Do it do it do it

Furries · 04/03/2019 18:25

Thanks all, have just downloaded the first season and am go8ng to start tonight.

I’d always been a bit “meh” when I heard references to it, but I think I’ve been convinced to give it a go.

Ha, I said the same to someone who was about to start Line of Duty from the beginning “I’m kind of envious”. Don’t think a recommendation can get much better!

I’ll try to remember to post at the end of Season 1 to let you know how I got on.

Go for it. It's not my genre at all and still wasn't sure after a couple of episodes but it is brilliant. I don't rewatch anything but I'm rewatching GOT in anticipation for the final season.

Miljah · 10/03/2019 22:44

GoT is great if nasty, misogynistic, and all other forms of watch-through-fingers violence is your Schtick.

Nasty, nasty, nasty.

bojosmoralcompass · 11/03/2019 13:16

It isn't misogynistic though, so many of the female characters are very strong and the balance of power is now held by the women. It takes a while for that to develop admittedly. It is very clever, well written and acted and I really don't usually like this genre.

NKFell · 11/03/2019 15:58

I don't think it's misogynistic and characters that are usually get their comeuppance.

I would recommend- LOVE LOVE LOVE!

IWantMyHatBack · 11/03/2019 15:59

It's great!

All seasons are on Now TV atm as well, ahead of the new season in mid April

Morgan12 · 11/03/2019 16:01

Anyone who says GOT is misogynistic clearly hasn't watched it all.

IWantMyHatBack · 11/03/2019 16:40

Exactly Morgan

pastabest · 11/03/2019 16:55

You have to watch past S1 otherwise you end up with a view like Miljah

I refused to watch it initially as it looked awful and really not my type of thing. Then got really hooked in by an episode someone else in the house was watching around early S.3 and had to go back and binge watch S1 -2 to catch up.

I loved Line of Duty and am thinking of watching GoT given that everyone has raved about it. It's not my usual genre I must admit. Also I get really irritated by gratuitous female nudity - I wonder if that's what the "misogyny" comment refers to. It's put me off a bit.

BridlingtonSand · 11/03/2019 18:22

The treatment and portrayal of women is problematic, better than in the books, but still poor.

Littleraindrop15 · 11/03/2019 18:24

Love got!! 😍

Miljah · 11/03/2019 18:52

To be fair, I work in front line NHS.

I don't need to watch little girls getting burnt alive for entertainment.

I get to see it in real life.

It's not entertaining.

Furries · 24/03/2019 11:13

I said I’d try to remember to update once I finished Season 1. Well, it’s taken me a while as I got so hooked. I’ve just finished Season 7 and have also watched a couple of episodes showing behind the scenes/making of/special effects.

It was bloody brilliant, I’m really surprised how much I liked it!!

I wasn’t prepared for quite how graphic it was going to be. I’m no prude, but at first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it being quite explicit, but I think it got better the more the series went on.

Loved watching the development of various characters over the years and how plot lines came together further down the line.

The humour is so good, some brilliant lines throughout.

Am glad I watched all 7 series in one go. I’m not sure if I’d have been so hooked if I’d had to wait a year or so between each season. I’ve seen that Season 8 is only 6 episodes - I think I’m going to record them and then watch them all in a couple of sittings (whilst avoiding newspapers/social media so I don’t come across spoilers!).

Thanks again for giving me your views ahead of watching - hope you all enjoy the new season!
