Faithfull - Marianne F documentary in BBC4

I'm not a big fan of Marianne F, but watched this out of curiosity.
My impression is that she had a very pretty face which opened doors for her, and had a lot of luck in meeting famous musicians along the way, who made things happen for her. Her voice wasn't great, it was more a case of having the right face, in the right place and time.
I'm not sure that the same sort of career would be possible for a young pretty woman starting out in the music industry today - it's all so very different and there isn't so much money to be made from selling records (now CDs) as so many people stream free music online. Did anyone else watch this, and if so, do you have similar thoughts?

I didn't know it was on. I really like Marianne Faithful's voice as she got older. I'm old enough to remember her as Jagger's girlfriend. I suspect she was exploited and used as a young girl just out of convent school.

Yes to begin with... just pretty and well connected... but it did turn out she was also talented.. her voice as she got older became very unique and beautiful. Shes also had a very interesting life... particularly for the time she was young in... and in many ways shes been quite brave. I do think shes quite an icon.

I saw it was coming on and decided to watch it. I was intrigued by all the different styles/changes she went through. I think as a mature women she is very interesting and do like her husky voice.

Sounds a bit like Vi Subversa from the Poison Girls! Another of my favourite singers!

As above, MF a convent schoolgirl, looking for love and attention. Young and beautiful, exploited by older men who were looking for something else. She's a survivor. Good luck to her.
