Does anyone watch the Orville, who has seen the most recent episode (Identity Part 1) and wants to talk about it?!

Firstly - if you've seen further on episodes from the US (is it further ahead there?) or know what happens next, please please don't say! No spoilers please!

Secondly - if you haven't seen up to the episode 'Identity part 1', there may be spoilers for you! You have been warned!

So what did people think?!

I thought it was the biggest twist I've ever seen in an episodic TV series. If it is how it seems at the moment, everything we've known about Issac has been a lie.

We thought Isaac was a Data like character, but it's looking like he and his species are more like the Borg!

And the 'issue' of these episodes is that of the danger of AI wiping out the human race.

I thought the ending of the first part was really exciting and I can't wait until the next episode!

I am loving this all so much. Its honestly one of the smartest things on tv right now.

I didn’t see this coming at all as I really thought they were going to play the relationship part for laughs and then this came out of almost nowhere. And then I thought Isaac would go rogue (to his people) and be a good guy but NOPE.

The genius of this series is that they sucked us in with the premise that it was a parody. And then made it a mature and thoughtful program with real heart but also dick jokes.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets - Completely agree. It is so true to the spirit of Star Trek. It is sweet and clever and I'm enjoying it much more than Star Trek Discovery!

There's still time for Isaac to be the good guy... I'm still hoping!

Was brilliant...although dd wants to know why the biological s didn’t stop the AIs , and why the AIs need to keep building more of themselves and expanding their empire - why not just stop making more?

I’ve seen both episodes now, but will try not to spoil!

I’ve enjoyed every episode of The Orville, but this one blew them all out of the water. Proper on the edge of the seat stuff.

(Conversely I’m now 3 weeks behind on Discovery and just can’t bring myself to care)

Yes! I love this series. I hate the dark and gritty tone of star trek:discovery- I find it less realistic, strangely- people who work together joke and have a laugh, not glare at eachother and have nothing but deeply intense conversations. Even more so in dangerous situations, it's just what people do.

I LOVED this episode. I knew it was going to be epic just from the music- it was like a film score. This was definitely the Orvilles 'Best of Both Worlds' moment. Did NOT see it coming at all- other races have been set up as antagonists or potential problems (Krill, Moclus) so this came totally out of left field.

I love how creative this series is, and the way it tackles issues in an interesting way. It just feels so much like Star Trek to me (to the point where at first instead of star trek:discovery above I wrote 'the other star trek'. It's my favourite show at the moment. Can't wait til next week!

I think it is great and so tongue-in-cheek to other Sci-Fi stuff 😊
Only saw part 1 and haven't looked further on. I thought it was a big twist last night!

I hadn't really been enjoying season 2 of The Orville as much as season 1, I felt it had gotten schmaltzy but this was a fanatstic episode. I agree with others that it's much better tha STD and more in keeping with the Star Trek eths an duniverse than STD. STD seasin 2 is even more of a mess than season1

LemonChiffon · 03/03/2019 21:22

I'm glad others are enjoying it too!

I like the way they aren't afraid to tackle issues that Star Trek wouldn't have. Porn addiction, same sex attraction (or opposite sex!) in a society where it is viewed as wrong, all the issues around the sex change of Bortus's baby.

I liked the episode about Isaac and Dr Finn's relationship. I thought Isaac sitting in his pants drinking a beer to get Claire to break up with him was hilarious!
