Anybody watching / watched this? I started last night and I’m hooked (luckily I’m on mat leave now!)

I'm watching! About halfway through. I'm not totally hooked like I can be with some things but I'm enjoying it.

There’s another thread floating around for it (and a third with spoilers!). I was gripped! There’s also a documentary on Netflix with the real Debra et al.

EnchantingRaven · 26/02/2019 14:10

Ah I didn’t see any threads I tried looking yesterday! It’s reminding me of ‘you’ quite a lot, although I’m just desperate to find out how this ends now! I wanted to go out shopping an hour ago and I’m on episode 6 now..

Will have a look for that documentary after finishing this too

I've watched the whole thing and thought it was brilliant and the acting was great. I thought Eric Bana was superb and was so chilling.

Anyone else want to slap Debra though, I get that she was completely enthralled but the character seems so dim. Its great that she made a move in the end, but a bit too late. The show makes her look so totally vacant, is it supposed to be drugging from the smoothes or is she really this blank?

ImaSandyGirl · 26/02/2019 23:58

I wondered too if he was drugging her with the smoothies as they featured a lot throughout the series. I watched an interview with the actress who played her and she said that one of the themes in Dirty John was the impact parents have on their children. Debra's mother had a pretty warped sense of a motherly love when she totally forgave the man who murdered her daughter and seemed to even blame her daughter for him killing her. I wonder if this lack of maternal instinct rubbed off on Debra and affected her own attitude towards her daughters, as it seems she put John and her own happiness before them.

What is the documentary on Netflix called? I can't find it

EdWinchester · 27/02/2019 19:32

We enjoyed it. But never have wanted to shake someone more than that ninny Debra.

No, he wasn't drugging her smoothies. She was just a weak and immature person.
