A little bit of Hugh Jackman...

Heard on the radio today that Hugh Jackman is doing a star turn of The Greatest Showman for the opening of The Brits tonight (obviously I’ll turn over after that as I no longer recognise most of the nominees anymore being an old gimmer 😊).

When's the Eurovision or are UK still in it? Wink

Who's picture we're Beyoncé and Jay Z turning round to look at? They are strange. And not a group. Twenty one pilots woz robbed.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 20/02/2019 22:21

Were not we're stupid autocorrect.

JaneJeffer · 20/02/2019 22:21

Megan I think.

What I learnt from last night.

The music biz had become incredibly boring , an older actor singing was better than many of the youngsters, Shawn mendes is Canadian and the 1975 like weird hats.
Tom someone loves his Nan ( which is nice actually) and the Carters have become even weirder as the years go on. The Americans cba with the Brits anymore. They are not silly winning Grammys is much more their thing.

Duo Lipa seems a nice person and whiney singing is very in! Oh, and Calvin Harris is Scottish ( which I'm sure I did know once but he should be American really) I claim to be a fan as well.

I learnt that despite being a middle aged woman I do not fancy or indeed feel any type of emotion good or bad towards Hugh Jackman.

Raahh · 21/02/2019 09:48
Grin

that's an excellent review of 80s.

I'm not sure about Hugh. I do know I'm heartily sick of the Greatest Showman, though. Grin

80s very well put!
I had no feelings on huge jackman until the greatest showman but I do know I never want to hear a greatest showman song again

The80sweregreat · 21/02/2019 10:12

I hated the soundtrack at first but then I saw the film and it made sense. The songs are too young for the era it's set in though.

This soundtrack done by other people is much better. Panic at the disco doing the opening number is much better than Hugh Jackman as he has a much more ' gravelly' voice.
There's a thread going on about how today's young are being brainwashed by the likes of Jess Glynn etc etc. There is still edgy different music about, but it will never be showcased at the Brits.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/02/2019 10:37

I have travelled the Brits road for years - highs and lows. Thought this year's very boring. Watched it with the teen DC and even they didn't seem to know some of the nominated singers/groups. Think it probably peaked in the late 90s to early 00s.

Have a bit of a cougar crush on Calvin Harris (sure his sister is a MNetter BTW) and think Dua Lipa is lovely and comes across very well.

Thought Hugh Jackman looked suave and handsome as ever.

The rest of them a bit meh really. Nothing against Pink but not sure you could really put her in the same category as David Bowie. Surely Madonna would have been a more reasonable choice if they were going to pick an American?

JaneJeffer · 21/02/2019 10:46

Madonna probably wouldn't go back after her cape fiasco.

Raahh · 21/02/2019 11:20

80s that's why I didn't like TGS- the songs don't fit the period, which I'm sure is deliberate, but I found it jarring. Especially the gazillionth time I was subjected to it.

The80sweregreat · 21/02/2019 11:22

It was odd but the songs have gained a life of their own lately ( on heart radio mostly)
At least Pink didn't sing her version yesterday!

PolaDeVeboise · 21/02/2019 19:15

I think George Michael should be awarded a posthumous Brit for Outstanding Contribution next year.

PrincessScarlett · 21/02/2019 19:28

The Carters winning best international group was an absolute farce.

I love Pink. Comparing her to Bowie, The Beatles etc for her outstanding contribution does make you think she's not in the same league. However, she has been in the business 20 years, seems like a genuinely decent person and is a great example to young girls and women about not having to adhere to a certain look or behave a certain way.

Ratatouille76 · 21/02/2019 20:14

I had absolutely no idea who the Carter's were. Have now realised it's Beyonce and Jay Z. Are they a band together now or something? Realise I sound incredibly old!

Corneliawildthing · 21/02/2019 20:18

Ratatouille I thought exactly the same as you. I've always thought of JayZ and Beyonce as separate artistes and didn't know they'd ever done anything together known as the Carters Confused

Ratatouille76 · 21/02/2019 20:19

Pretentious wankery!

PrincessScarlett · 21/02/2019 20:31

I thought they'd had the odd collaboration together over the years but ridiculous to call them a "group" or "band". Beyonce used to be so cool but of late she's gone all weird on us.
