Goodnight John-Boy

That's pretty much all i remember, haven't watched it in donkeys.

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2019 12:45

John and Olivia had some serious chemistry. No wonder they had all those children Grin

And that beautiful house!

But Olivia looked far too young to have had all those children.

merrybloomizoothief · 18/02/2019 13:42

They married young though didn't they? They eloped I think?

But do you really think she would have looked like that after 6 pregnancies ( or however many it was)?

merrybloomizoothief · 18/02/2019 14:22

I think she would have been slim because she worked constantly. All washing etc had to be done by hand etc

My sister and I were totally traumatised by the episode with the poltergeist, we were petrified that would happen to us when we became teenagers!!
DH and I sometimes shout "G'night John boy, G'night hairy melon" to DS, he thinks we're nuts!
What channel is it on? I shall worry my sister with it ;)

Olivia was lovely; the actress who played her, Michael Learned, has had some scary face work now though, she looks unrecognisable, sadly.
I'd love to watch The Waltons again - must look out for it.

Princecharlesfirstwife · 18/02/2019 17:55

I’m sure I read a recent interview with Michael Learned when she said that she and Ralph Waites were in love but decided to not take it offset (or something like that) but remained close friends until he died.
John Boy was achingly superior. I think he’d have proper wound me up if he was my big brother. I was watching one episode the other day - little JimBob was super cute but when I googled him (I realise this is very shallow) he grew into a bit of an odd looking adult.

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2019 18:40

That's interesting Prince, it really came across that way on screen. Aww.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/02/2019 18:43

I have spent about the last 6 months watching it all from beginning to end, starting with the first feature length episode/film when all the kids were the same but the parents different actors!

I loved rewatching it all.

merrybloomizoothief · 18/02/2019 18:50

lovely interview with her here

Pinnacle of my life, persuading DH to detour to Schuyler on mega holiday drive from Washington to Knoxville.

The mountains are breathtaking.

The museum set in Earl Hamner's school has the actual furniture used in the living room and John Boy's bedroom.

Every time I watch it I shout "I seen that in real life".

I love The Waltons.
