I have never posted in tellyaddicts before but I have binged all of umbrella academy on Netflix and it was outstanding!
Soundtrack is great, sorry is great. I bought some of the comics when they came out years ago but haven't read them in ages so can't confirm how true they are to that but as a stand alone! Brilliant! I hope there's a second series.

Love the way the music is part of the story rather than just a sound track.

They haven't even announced a renewal for it yet so 12 months MINIMUM

The music was amazing from the get go wasn't it? Started brilliant and didn't disappoint. I have to use subtitles (so the lyrics show up) and it really is part of the story.

I haven't watched this yet and it's killing me! I'm a huge my chemical romance fan and in their documentary film Gerard way was coming up with his ideas for umbrella academy then so he obviously worked on it for years. It looks amazing.

There were two other playlist Barton. I will selflessly work my way through them to check if it's on them.

Having listen a bit more to that playlist I'm not too convinced they were all on the programme. I could have missed them certainly - but there was just another They Might Be Giants track, and I don't recall there being two(?)

Watched the first two episodes last night, I loved the scene with them all dancing to Tiffany

However the talking chimpanzee is really grating. Perhaps he’s explained later but at the moment he doesn’t seem to fit in with the magical realism of this universe so far.

Well, I wouldn’t watch it just because it’s popular - tbh perversely that’s more expensive likely to put me off! I just meant, will it get better? Or is the rest like the first two episodes? Sometimes things pick up.

The 15 year old who plays 5 is in a Nickelodeon series called Nicky Ricky Dicky and Dawn... don't ask me how I know 🤣 just watched the first one and it's brill 😊

I absolutely loved it! I’m not a comic/ superhero fan usually but I was a huge fan of My Chemical Romance/ Gerard Way in my youth so thought I should check it out. I was surprised by how invested in it I became!

Cannot believe the actor playing Five is really 15. I’d assumed he was a short, young-looking 20 year old or something. He’s incredible!

I thought it was the biggest load of shite I’d seen in a long time, I would have turned it off when they said about 40 odd babies being born to women who weren’t even pregnant that morning. However, I assumed the DC were enjoying it, so tolerated the pilot. Turns out that they thought it was rubbish too, but hadn’t wanted to spoil it for everyone else 😂😖

40 odd babies being born to women who weren’t even pregnant that morning.
Yeah. When I first heard that premise I did get my feminist rage on - oh the women who birth these children are just irrelevant vessels to produce superbabies are they. And then a rich man goes round and buys the babies from them rent-a-womb on sci-fi steroids. There’s also a massive sex imbalance in the characters, I’m not 100% sure it passes the Bechdel test (would have to re-watch the interactions between Vanya, Alison and Grace, but I’m pretty sure that almost all of their conversations are about the men, also Grace is a robot designed purely to be a stereotype, not a woman, so probably shouldn’t count for Bechdel assessment). Hmm - perhaps there are interactions between ChaCha and the Handler that do not solely revolve around men, but again the Handler is a supernatural being presented as a stereotype, not an actual woman (doesn’t deserve her own name) so again I’m not sure counts for Bechdel purposes.
And the two main female characters - one becomes the destructive force that ends the world - fall of Eve trope much - and the other is literally silenced for the last few episodes, and her magic power was manipulation. Hmm .

I watched to the end with DP and it was vaguely enjoyable but massively frustrating for the reasons above - all the more so for many people regarding there being ‘strong female characters’ and gender-bending being portrayed with Klaus, as evidence that it was a progressive show in relation to feminism/gender etc.

Feminism really does ruin tv a lot of the time
