It's back, bbc four

I found the last 2 episodes gripping but ultimately a bit unsatisfactory. There was so much we didn't know till the last minute.
Was it really worth Stefan paying so much - enough to buy a small farm! - to have the waste dumped? Surely he could have foreseen the consequences?
How many more cops' daughters can be kidnapped?
Did Stefan have an adoptive father? I still felt a bit confused about all the relations and vaguely thought he was one of the cousins.
Hammer of Thor was a complete red herring then. We never really found out what became of Ketill's sons.
I am nearly 60, is it very wrong that I rather fancied Aron? Might have to wait till the acne clears up though, poor lad.

HiHoToffee · 17/03/2019 11:18

Asgeir Sad

Yes that took a dark turn.

I was right about Stefan but didn't see the rest coming, a bit too far fetched.

Ketill said that both his sons were doing time in jail.

I still don't fully understand why Gisli tried to kill his sister. I get that he was a man at breaking point but why take his sister down too? Was it anger that she had seemingly managed to walk away and leave the past behind? There was reference to her being aware of the map that Finnur had but I didn't understand why that was a bad thing??

Bravelurker · 18/03/2019 01:32

Still would love want to live there though, it looks stunning.

It is really stunning in Siglufjörður - I was there last summer. You really realise how remote the place is.

Not sure that I could live there all year because of the 2½ months of winter darkness. The mountains are really high around the fjord. As a result the sun goes down on November 15th in Siglufjörður and doesn't reappear above the mountains again for 74 days (January 28th) - although you get a pancake party on the day the sun reappears.

DH and I have really enjoyed this despite the usual frustrating bits in a crime drama ie Asgeir going off on his own- poor guy, although I guess he was feeling sidelined and wanting to prove to Andri he wasn't a numpty and could crack the case.
We didn't see series 1.Where can we find it does anyone know?It is stunning but a but too bleak for me -makes Shetland look positively tropical !

implantsandaDyson · 19/03/2019 09:29

Series 1 is on Amazon Prime. I really enjoyed both series, all my shows are now ending, I'm bereft Grin

Lunde · 19/03/2019 10:08

Series 1 was fabulous - really bleak when the whole town was "Trapped" by the blizzard! You can get it on dvd as well

helzapoppin2 · 19/03/2019 17:31

I’ve just watched episode 9 on catch up. Saving 10 for this evening. Hinrika! Isn’t she wonderful? Her thoughtful frown! I really like her and Andri. When he locked himself in the bathroom and cried it occurred to me that on all these dark Scandi dramas we never see very much emotion.

Snugglepiggy · 19/03/2019 19:29

Thanks. Will definitely watch Series 1.And try to forget Asgeir comes to a grizzly end eventually.

Lunde · 19/03/2019 19:41

You will enjoy series 1 - and also notice a behaviour patter that Asgeir does daft things sometimes

Lunde · 19/03/2019 19:41

Poor Asgeir Sad. There was a moment I thought he might be involved as he knew everyone (but I think in a place like that everyone knows everyone anyway). But yes to go off without backup - why do so many policemen on crime dramas do that? Haven't they learned??

Yes to the red herring of Thor's Hammer - why do that, have such a huge storyline and it's not really relevant at all?

Love Hinrika's frown - reminds me of Tosh's screwed up face in Shetland (I'm guessing there's a bit of crossover in the viewers).

Thorhildur was a perfect stroppy teenager. Infuriating but just a little girl underneath it all. And Aron reminds me of a 90s pinup, can't think who.

Been to Iceland, it's absolutely beautiful and this just made me want to go back (I expect the Icelandic tourist board were very pleased by the shots in this!).

Lunde · 21/03/2019 10:07

But yes to go off without backup - why do so many policemen on crime dramas do that? Haven't they learned??

I guess I understood the "going off alone" in this context as the village Police station only had 2 or 3 permanent officers so Hinrika and Asgeir must have been very used to acting alone.

But - and it's a big but - I didn't really understand what Asgeir's plan was when he did this? The murderer was trying to set up a meeting with 15 year old Thorhildur - so how did Asgeir think that it would work out with a uniformed Police officer turning up in a marked car? Why didn't he take the Reykjavik police officer, who was in the station, with him? Or was he trying to prove that "country cops" could deal with the issue alone? He said something about "just being a country cop earlier in the episode and I seem to remember that the tension/conflict between the local cops and Reykjavik was a big theme in season 1.

DarlingNikita · 22/03/2019 12:02

I still don't fully understand why Gisli tried to kill his sister.

Me either. Or how Halla's personal (terribly tragic) story fitted in with her actions re the plant. And what was with the money she handed to Jorunn (?) – Stefan's adoptive mother – saying 'This is the amount we agreed.'? DP suggested it was money for his upkeep, but he's a grown man.

And who was the woman grooming the pony at the end, who Vikingur came to talk to?

greenelephantscarf · 27/03/2019 22:33

was the actor who played stefan the same as the creepy norwegian cop in shetland?

Lunde · 28/03/2019 10:59

Yes - both roles were played by Arnmundur Ernst Björnsson

Lunde · 01/04/2019 14:55

At the weekend I was watching the JK Rowling film "Fantastic Beasts - the crimes of Grindelwald" with my DD - when I realised that the Icelandic actors who played "Andri" and "Asgeir" both had roles in the film. Quite a change of pace from the frozen northern fjords around Siglufjörður!
