One half of the first episode in and I'm already shocked she even answered the phone to him after his overly familiar behaviour on date one. Fuck that!

Who else is watching?

I’ve just binged 3 episodes, on the 4th now. 😳 The grandmother is really annoying me, she’s been aged up really badly and her ‘old’ acting is really bad too (although sounds like the real character was a bit odd too)

Autumnchill · 16/02/2019 18:16

Oh that's my Saturday night sorted!!! Listened to the podcast whilst painting a fence, my God it went quick!

reallemonade · 16/02/2019 19:00

I'm three episodes in, it's got me hooked! He is vile.

Autumnchill · 16/02/2019 20:01

I don't remember the daughters being so shallow. In the podcast they cone across as more caring but they're very hard nosed in this

GrubbyHipsterBeard · 16/02/2019 20:03

I’m half way through episode 1! To be fair, Eric Bana is fit

Dee03 · 16/02/2019 20:06

I'm on episode 2...he's such a creep

AlwaysSomethingThere · 17/02/2019 22:31

He's vile indeed!

I am ashamed to say I have finished it! Gripping. Will be back to discuss. What a man, hadn’t heard of this case before.

FissionChip5 · 17/02/2019 22:36

I’ve also finished it all, marathoned it yesterday Blush.

Malotkins · 17/02/2019 22:57

2 episodes in and it's just a bad channel 5 afternoon drama. Still watching though.

Awrite · 17/02/2019 23:14

I need to get to bed. I've stopped the third episode with 14 minutes to go. Such willpower.

What I wanted to know was - in episode 1, he's a total boundary pushing prick. She gives him a second chance. Did he do that to test whether she was ripe for fooling?

No fucking way I'd have answered the phone let alone swallow the crap he spun her.

AlwaysSomethingThere · 17/02/2019 23:28

Exactly. When she asked him to leave and he rolled over on the bed? Seriously get the FUCK out of my house!

Awrite · 18/02/2019 17:12

Argh, long hard day at work. Thought I'd catch a quick half episode before putting dinner on but WiFi isn't connecting to bloody TV.

Will have to wait on dh getting home.

Anyway, boundary pushing is always a bad sign. Just don't know if he was clever enough to know that or was it just part of his personality?

freerangechocolateegg · 18/02/2019 20:23

I'm really enjoying this. Having listened to the podcast I know the ending but I'm still gripped.

awaynboilyurheid · 18/02/2019 20:54

Just finished watching this. I know John was a psycho but the mother is truly awful I just knew she would walk into the hospital the sister ran in but she’s so so detached at times. I really liked the oldest daughter she was the only one with her head screwed on. The way the family keep telling her she didn’t do anything wrong there were so many red flags that she deliberately ignored.

ooooohbetty · 18/02/2019 21:00

I've watched all of it and it's not the same as the podcast. The podcast was better but the tv show is still good. If you didn't know it was a true story it would be pretty unbelievable.

Autumnchill · 18/02/2019 21:09

If I hadn't listened to the podcast I would have given up on this. It didn't build the tension, especially between the daughter and John and when he installed the cameras etc. I had more sympathy for the main characters during the podcast and hardly any during the tv programme.

Still watched it though as it was completely fascinating how someone can live under your roof and you don't know they haven't got a job!

whatdoyouwantfromme · 18/02/2019 21:13

Thanks ladies ! Was debating on watching this on the way to work this morning. I'm sold - I need a distraction !!

qazxc · 18/02/2019 21:20

That family seems like a hotbed of dysfunction!
The nephew and the son seemed ok. But the mother ignored a load of red flags and just did whatever suited her (like the time she promised daughter she would try and keep grandchildren and John separate, only to have him waltz in the door with the sacks of christmas presents).
The daughters appeared to act really childlike for people in their twenties. They also seemed to be reliant on the mother's money: dog grooming and beautician were never going to fund their lifestyle, especially the eldest.
The grandmother's romantic standpoint on her daughter's murder was verging on victim blaming.

There was an explanation in the last episode as to John's behaviours (like on the first date) but I don't want to discuss in case I spoil it for those who aren't that far in.

qazxc · 18/02/2019 21:27

Also why did nobody wonder why he was constantly in scrubs?

Autumnchill · 18/02/2019 21:49

In the podcast the daughter does and tells her Mum that no Dr wears scrubs outside of a hospital

Autumnchill · 18/02/2019 21:55

BTW anyone who like Dirty John should try Over My Dead Body and Who the Hell is Hamish podcasts
