Anyone watching Dirty John and want a discussion thread?

Just started watching on Netflix - two episodes in and quite like it so far.
I’ve alresdy listened to the podcast so interested to see if they stick with the actual story

Started watching last night. John reminded me hugely of my ex husband, which is scary. I don't actually hate Debra, I've known too many passive, paralysed women like her and I understand how it happens. The actress playing her is doing a great job. She's totally nailed the whispery "well I don't know/oh dear/I just don't..." passivity of these kinds of women. I'm angrier with the grandmother! To forgive the murdering fucker that shot your daughter, to the point where she defended him in court?! I hate her.

I've just seen on Netflix's coming soon page that the documentary Dirty John : The Dirty Truth is coming on Tuesday

I am absolutely loving this show and I’m so glad that there’s a thread here to discuss.

I only heard about this yesterday and I’m 5 episodes in already, I’ve also watched Dirty John, the dirty truth from Oxygen, I watched on You Tube and this was to get an understanding of the story.

Connie Britton is excellent as Debra Newell, she has her down to a T, and she actually met the real Debra Newell which is why she’s so great in this show, Eric Bana is also amazing, he had the ‘I don’t give a fuck’ facial expression down to a T as well, this was when Debra’s nephew Toby Sellers, went to the door to speak to Debra and only John was home.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been so hooked on a TV show, and I was hooked in half an episode.

SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT below here so please don’t read if you don’t want to know...

I can’t believe the forgiveness that went on in this family, especially Arlane Hart, Debras mother, forgiving Bobby for shooting dead her daughter, dear god why would you? It does make us understand where Debra was coming from though with her forgiveness.

I absolutely love the wardrobe of Britton in this, that beautiful purple shirt with the black lace is amazing, I bet it wasn’t cheap either.

I'm very wary of spoilers because years ago on MN I once totally inadvertently spoiled something within a thread, think it was Masterchef or GBBO or something. Oh my, you would've thought I'd committed a henious crime the flaming I got. Never again!

I have had sniffy comments about it too @Roussette so we agreed to put a spoiler warning on a thread.

Then got complaints it was a spoiler thread even though an alternate was available

You basically need two threads a series now because of pacing

Just a few months ago someone had a moan because of a supposed “spoiler” for one of the Harry Potter movies . If you’ve not managed to watch a movie after ten to fifteen years then spoilers are probably your own responsibility to avoid. I do think some people just like to have a moan though.

My spoiler was after a few days of the programme being on, said in passing on a thread that was nothing to do with Masterchef or GBBO or whatever it was. Eeeeek! Such vitriol! I reported to have it removed straightaway but of course it takes a few hours and there were a few that just piled in and I was sick of apologising!
