Anyone watching How the other kid lives?

Finding it so poignant... wonder if I'd have let my DD do it.

One of the little girls having a bit of a tough time

I'm watching it. How is Lily more wise than me when she's about 10 and I'm in my 30's? Blush

Toofaroutallmylife · 12/02/2019 20:45

I love Lily and her mum

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 12/02/2019 20:49

@MissionItsPossible I feel the same-she is so incredible.

She has a lot of responsibility for a little girl but her Mum supports her so well!

Lily is so emotionally resilient. I loved her comment about the NH Chest 😂

MissionItsPossible · 12/02/2019 21:03

Impressed with this so far and enjoyed it last week too. The Guardian review said it was like Come Dine With Me with no sarcasm. Quite apt Grin

Nobody else remembers this but there was a reality show on either Channel 4 or 5 in the 00's and it was about a group of children that lived together, boys and girls were segregated and then they joined each other, it was a bit like Big Brother but a kids version with bullying, arguments and fighting sometimes. This show is presented so much nicer.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 12/02/2019 21:08

@Mission I remember that show!!! Sort of deteriorated at the end with some of them didn't it? Went a bit Lord of the Flies...

I do sometimes wonder what the brief is to the parents to get them to agree to their DC appearing!

Loved it.
Didn't Isis' dad have a voice just like Alan Partridge??

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/02/2019 21:10

I’m watching on catch up. Feeling very sorry for Isis with her daddy that gets angry at things he shouldn’t get angry at Sad

ErictheGuineaPig · 12/02/2019 21:10

Lily has absolutely stolen my heart. What a lovely little character. I want to invite her over to mine for a playdate!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/02/2019 21:11

It’s interesting watching this week, all girls and theyre drawing. Last week mostly boys and they were jumping on sofas and running laps round the house Grin

JellyBellies · 12/02/2019 21:12

What channel is this on please?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/02/2019 21:13

That’s a really lovely green they have at Lily’s house. I would love something like that here.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/02/2019 21:14

ITs on 4+1 now jelly

PsychedelicSheep · 12/02/2019 21:24

Isis' dad's explanation of how IS are called Islamic state and not isis was pure Partridge 😂

PsychedelicSheep · 12/02/2019 21:46

Tim didn't do badly with the play date to be fair, a bit keen maybe but was good to see a dad doing the organising.

Lily made me cry, what a lovely little girl she is.

I live in Bristol and know so many people like her mum and her.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/02/2019 21:46

Ahh poor Lily. My DCs don’t see their dad either. It’s such a shit hand of cards to be dealt as a child.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/02/2019 21:47

I thought Tim did great. They all seemed to live the activities he did with them but he wasn’t overbearing I don’t think.

TheFaerieQueene · 12/02/2019 21:50

It is a fabulous programme. All the girls were wonderful. I hope they have remained in contact.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/02/2019 21:51

That was a bit weird with pipers parents talking to camera. I think it must have been edited badly as it wasn’t quite clear what they were talking about when they said “we want that life for them” because all they’d said was that piper order mocktails and off the a la carte menu! Grin

MissionItsPossible · 12/02/2019 22:34

@mumsiedarlingrevolta

You're the only other person I know that remembers that show! I think I should rewatch it if it's available because I remember being a bit horrified watching it. And I remember it being like Lord of the Flies way before the end, more like from the very beginning! It was like the mean moments on Secret lives of 5 year olds but 10 times worse! There was also another family reality show on Channel 5 and it aired one episode and although it said the next episode was on next week they never aired any of it again. I don't know if it got complaints but it was very strange and I think they quietly dropped it and now don't mention it lol.

TheCounter · 13/02/2019 03:20

Piper seemed like a sensitive little soul. Felt quite sorry for her. She seemed to be over analysing everyones reactions to her. Quite struck by how much of their characters seemed independent of their circumstance.

I think it was this www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2603181/Channel-4-condemned-over-documentary-putting-children-in-house-alone.html

I really enjoyed it...last week and last night.

The kids last week were just so vulnerable in their own ways. And I thought they were pretty mature for their ages. I loved the Nigerian family.

Last night, the girls were lovely. The way that Lily's mum has explained things to her is just beautiful...I got a bit teary eyed when she talked about the comfort zone...

I thought the play date dad was smashing! He did make me cringe though when he said about when Isis was conceived! BlushGrin

MissionItsPossible · 13/02/2019 07:52

@mumsiedarlingrevolta

Yes, that was it! I wonder if it’s still as shocking or, due to desensitivity, it would be seen as normal a decade later?

The other show I mentioned that Channel 5 dropped is the one mentioned in this scathing review by the Guardian and it was called The Week we went Wild:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/jan/10/the-week-we-went-wild-review-lazy-corrupt-and-shameful

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 13/02/2019 09:48

Lily actually made me cry 😭 what a beautiful little girl.

All the girls were quite lovely.

I didn’t like Pipers parent though , I found them incredibly pretentious.
At the end when pipers mum was talking about Lily being a lesson for piper I was very offended on Lily’s behalf.
Lily does not exist as a life lesson to Piper and despite not going to private school and having a dad and a big house Lily’s life is extremely worthwhile and full in its own right.
