This is starting to feel a bit to love island like for me which I'm not loving I think it's missing the survival element it used to have

I watched with my a friend tonight, made me realise how shit and stilted with it. Friend was making ConfusedHmmfaces throughout. I don't blame her..... probably not going to stop watching.

I applied for the first series of this. It was the very first reality tv show and so a very novel concept. I was 19. Now, watching this series... I FEEL SOOO OLD!

There was much more of a survival element then. Less Love Island, more Bear Grylls The Island. It was pretty tough and everyone mostly starved, but would you LOOK at the colour of that seawater. I was game.

God, I just remembered. I used to go on to a chat room online for Shipwrecked fans Grin This was in 1999 (or 2000?) so chatrooms and forums weren't really a thing then. I'd have to go to the library to access the internet so I'd trot off there every day to dial up and discuss Shipwrecked. Ha. Nearly 20 years later and what am I doing?! But it was such a new concept, the whole reality thing, and I was of an age with the contestants then. I was desperate to have a go!

I watched the first few of these last week with 14 year old DD and 12 year old DS. I quickly realised that it wasn’t really suitable viewing for my 12 year old (when new islander produced her vibrator) and I was a bit unsure about DD so we haven’t watched it since. However she keeps asking if she can watch it. Has there been anything too inappropriate for a 14 year old to watch? I know there’s loads of swearing but we can deal with that.

Yes I remember the old ones, the whole point was that the tribe that was able to provide more food, shelter, amenities won the new recruits because they provided a better life. This series they seem to spend all day playing and having deep and meaningful chats.

Totally agree Feltcarrot. Every time he's on screen I end up muttering 'knob' to myself and my DH who's pretending to not watch.

Really starting to like Big T! I thought she was awful in the first few episodes.

Apparently he’s 26!! Acts like he’s still at school with all the “Ne ne ne ne nah”, Liv is the same but is only 19 (although should still know better). If it wasn’t for those two (and Jamie) I’d probably pick Tigers over Sharks now.

I’m not liking the new format.

To me it was all about them building a good island to attract all the new arrivals

The sleeping huts already built and the duel shite is winding me up

I must admit I'm really struggling to switch it on now. Hate the new dual system at the beach party. It doesn't add anything to the show.

I didn't like the "we have to match camp" thing either. On the old one didn't both members get to stay? This seems mean making them go home so quickly!

I think because in the old one, the camp was basic and it was about survival.... naturally more people decided it wasn't for them so the rate of people dropping out was quite high. Now it's become a love island rip off with instagram "stars" they all want to stay so there has to be some way of artificially ejecting people.

Can you tell I'm disillusioned?
