Do you miss standard channels or Sky?

I'm thinking of getting rid of the TV license and sky as fine more often than not anything that we watch is often available on either Netflix or prime.

Would I miss the BBC?

We find the same, only ever watch Netflix or Prime.

I use Netflix, prime and channel 4 and 5’s catch up apps and don’t miss live tv at all. I only watch what I actually want to see instead of having random stuff on in the background and I don’t have the tv on nearly as much so get way more done!

BowBeau · 01/02/2019 17:08

We only watch Netflix. We don’t even have time to get through our list of programmes on that, never mind watching anything else.

NicoleNoPants · 01/02/2019 17:10

I use iPlayer to watch a handful of things but normally stick to Netflix and Prime and other catch ups

We got rid of sky in favour or Netflix and Amazon and with the intention of binning the standard channels but we couldn't bring ourselves to do it in the end.

I watch Netflix and a couple of things on channel four catch up. I've not paid my license fee for about a year now and whilst there is occasionally a programme I'd really like to watch on BBC, I don't miss live tv or BBC.

Nope. Standard tv is inconvenient (you have to adjust your schedule around it and have an actual television to watch it). I much prefer streaming.

Rhubardandcustard · 01/02/2019 17:13

Try now tv. Still does some sky channels, but at a fraction of the cost, they often do special offers.

Lbwestf123 · 01/02/2019 17:15

Definitely don’t miss it. It’s almost alien to me when adverts are on tv at a family members or friends!

I miss a few bbc dramas but they'll come onto Netflix eventually so I don't mind too much. We pay for Netflix and Amazon prime, and I get now tv entertainment free with my phone contract - that one isn't worth it if i paid. But if I was bedbound with an illness I'd subscribe to their movie service for a bit but not regularly. So if you miss sky you can get now tv. You can watch all the other channels on their on demand service, just not bbc iplayer. I wish bbc would switch to a subscription or pay for a series model - then I wouldn't mind paying for the few things I like, but over £160 is not worth it for a licence.

Between us we have Netflix, Prime and NowTV. I don't miss live TV at all, and NowTV has a lot the good Sky stuff on it too. The thing that does piss me off with NowTV is lack of subtitles unless you stream through their TV box, you can't get the on the app or online (I struggle to hear quieter dialogue and watch everything with subtitles).

Zog14 · 03/02/2019 12:47

I think you need a license to watch catch up TV on the players now. I watch Iplayer a lot and I have to tick a box indicating I have a license before it will play.
Also it applies to any device you watch it on, like a tablet, not just TV.

Happy to be corrected though.

GummyGoddess · 03/02/2019 12:51

Don't have a licence and don't miss it! You need a licence to watch live television or iplayer, you can watch catch up for other channels (I don't, but I could).
