I watched it. Frightening how violent and aggressive people can be.

staydazzling · 14/01/2019 22:37

I missed the very beginning so I didn't know what the different men were in for but the thought of how volatile they were and how there was no insight or thought that they might be in the wrong. Scary.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 14/01/2019 22:54

They came across as troubled souls, misunderstood even ..... then I googled their crimes! Nasty, nasty men.

Troi is back in Nottingham HMP after being part of a shooting last year as well as domestic violence

Prisons terrify and fascinate me equally

SwagQueen · 14/01/2019 22:56

I used to work in a prison and can't watch tv programmes about them, but heard this was good. Maybe time to face my fears...

Ispatienceavirtue · 14/01/2019 22:58

Yep - felt such a mixture of sadness, anger, frustration etc whilst watching it. Do not know how the prison guards do it, they must fear for their lives every single day.

SwagQueen · 14/01/2019 23:03

@Ispatienceavirtue you just crack on because you have to! Staff turnover is insanely high.

staydazzling · 14/01/2019 23:15

Wow they messed Tommy up. Shock

That's annoying I was hoping Troy would turn over. As much as Tommy is as stable as a cardboard mattress, I do not think that injury was justifiable, he is a volatile but tiny man, Hmm that prison guard is huge and 2 others Hmm im not convinced.

I watched it on 4od that's how I knew it's episode 3 I just thought it was very strange

ChristineBaskets · 15/01/2019 13:12

The other two episodes were shown a while back, the third was delayed, I'm guessing because Troi was on trial and it might have prejudiced the jury if he was shown.

It's been an amazing series and every episode has been deeply affecting. It's left me feeling despair at the system, we need more involvement with troubled children to stop them becoming the men in these programs, and we need something between prison and life outside for people with mental health issues who are prone to criminality.

Troi was set up to fail when he was sent back to his old gang territory. He should have been set up in a halfway facility somewhere completely different and supported to make a new life there imo.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 15/01/2019 13:35

I work with "troubled children" and you're absolutely right. Early intervention is key, the earlier the better. Unfortunately most youth offending services aren't able to do preventative work with kids deemed "at risk of offending" anymore as they've had their funding slashed. They can only access support once they're already in the criminal justice system. It's very sad but I don't see it changing anytime soon.

PollyFlinderz · 15/01/2019 14:14

It was horrific and I’m not convinced the injury to the prisoner was accidental.

Troi not making good when he left prison has saddened me.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2019 15:24

I was also hoping Tori would turn over a new leaf. It's in the local
Need that he's been back to prison again. They all seemed very volatile. Tommy seems like a very nasty man.

Ispatienceavirtue · 15/01/2019 17:31

Assuming that what the prison guard was telling the truth of the lead up to the incident I do not blame him at all. We'd already seen how volatile Tommy was, the threats he had made and the weapons they'd confiscated from him which he admitted he had to stab people with. I imagine a lot of people ,if they had had their back to him and he launched himself at them ,they would have thrown a punch too and not had the time to completely weigh up where exactly it would land. It is hardly the officer's fault that he is bigger than the prisoner and height doesn't matter if the assailant has a weapon.
The Governor already admitted they had dismissed staff for excessive force so it wasn't as though they were trying to maintain a blameless facade.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2019 19:50

I had mire sympathy for the officer, who was clearly worried about what had happened.

TokyoSushi · 15/01/2019 20:52

Argh it doesn't seem to be working on my catch up tv Sad

PollyFlinderz · 15/01/2019 23:40

I didn’t have any sympathy for Tommy and I suspect the officer snapped having to work in that place day in and day out.

staydazzling · 16/01/2019 07:04

my issue is more the severity and nature of the injuries, a bust open eyebrow, not the guards fault he is bigger no but its relevant when 2 other guards are there, im not saying hes a dreadful but it seems an 'interesting' defensive injury. The issue that i have is the knee jerk response because He is so unfavourable, in that sense it makes him more vulnerable. but thats just my opinion of course 🤷‍♀️
