What a thoroughly enjoyable programme. And what a clever idea.

I was almost as nervous as the couples were by the time they actually danced together!

The gay couple had me in tears just seeing the spontaneously joyful way they responded to each other - it was so lovely to watch them.

Ashley Banjo is an excellent presenter too.

I loved it, thought Ashley Banjo was brilliant.

I said to dh this is going to be like first dates, where I get over invested and will be upset if they don’t fall in love!

Can’t wait for next weeks.

Stickystickystickstick · 11/01/2019 13:24

Hooray i have been waiting for a thread on this!! It was a lovely programme, both couples were fab and well.matched imo! Didnt feel the first dance showed them having as much of a connection as the second, roll on next week!!

TheEfficientBaxter · 11/01/2019 13:43

That's exactly what I thought about the first dance!

Whereas the second one, with Dan and Luke, was just a joy to watch. The smiles, the eye contact, the beard strokes - and then that gorgeous little hand-kiss - just had me smiling and crying at the same time.

I don't mind admitting that I've watched their dance again this morning - twice!

I only watched the first 10 minutes as I fell asleep, I was pleasantly surprised though at how good it seemed. Ashley Banjo seems lovely.
My husband ended up watching the rest and said he actually enjoyed it and said I should watch on catch up to see he actual dances.

Stickystickystickstick · 11/01/2019 14:11

In fairness the second couple had far more space for their routine - i also like that they deviated slightly from the routine as they were both distracted with one another! I have also rewatched! I may or may not have shed some happy tears, i hope we get to find out if they are still dating etc later in the series!

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/01/2019 22:29

Just got round to re- watching it on catch up, without falling asleep this time... that second dance was a joy to watch. Grin
How lovely.

Icecreambythesea · 12/01/2019 00:39

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ashely is a brilliant host , putting people as ease. I'm really routing for the gay couple, they seemed to have wonder chemistry and I teared up when he kissed his hand.

cavycavy · 12/01/2019 00:47

Yes! Must admit, I really expected it to be a bit naf. But it wasn’t at all! It was lovely and heartfelt and the second couple especially, the dance was a pleasure to watch.

And the intro when he said our grandparents would have met in dancehalls struck a chord with me as my gran and aunties have told me many stories of their ‘going to a dabce’ days.

fruitpastille · 12/01/2019 10:46

I absolutely loved this. So romantic. I really like the first moments of both dances in particular - the nervousness while they wait and then when they turn to make eye contact. I couldn't stop smiling!

TheEfficientBaxter · 12/01/2019 16:30

Why aren't more there more people on here raving about this little gem of a programme?

It's such a brilliant and refreshing concept, and I can't understand why Channel 4 hid it away on a Thursday night, with hardly any tempting trailers!

It's surely got the potential to be as popular as Blind Date was.

Stickystickystickstick · 12/01/2019 16:51

Agreed!! Looking forward to the next episode already!

MrsFiddymont · 12/01/2019 16:56

I loved it too. The guys were fabulous, ideally uplifting to watch.

TheEfficientBaxter · 12/01/2019 18:12

It was palpable to see how nervous Luke was from his breathing, waiting at the the foot of those steps and hearing the taxi door shut behind him.

I was hyperventilating with him!

TheEfficientBaxter · 12/01/2019 18:33

The fact that Dan and Luke weren't allowed to speak to each other at all before, during or after the dance was just a genius idea!

Their minds would just have been racing with the emotion and excitement of the dance - and the first sight of each other.

It was truly beautiful to watch.

And the fact that they weren't perfect Adonises, just ordinary men who want to find a loving partner made it all the more real !

Wouldn't it be great if they fell in love and stay together?

Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic, but they look so right together!

Baxter, your synopsis was perfect.

TheEfficientBaxter · 12/01/2019 19:59

Thanks, MrsFiddymont, I know I'm probably overinvested, but seeing those two just touched something inside me really deeply.

Totally get what you mean, it was amazing.

GoodGirlsGuide · 12/01/2019 20:06

The dances made me cry - I’m was so over emotional lol! I also loved it and thought Ashley did a great job presenting. I also got through so much ironing while watching it I surprised myself - I’m looking forward to the next one. I wondered how they managed to match the couples so well??

TheEfficientBaxter · 12/01/2019 20:58

I dont know how they matched them, GoodGirlsGuide, but I think they got it right with Dan and Luke.

If those two weren't made for each other, I will eat my hat!

The way they looked and smiled at each other was just so beautiful - I do hope they stay together.

Spoiler?

Here's a link if you want to find out if Dan & Luke are together....

TheEfficientBaxter · 13/01/2019 10:33

Thankyou so much for the link, Bootsuit!

I'm a bit sad they aren't together as a couple, but 'never say never'. It's still early days, and maybe as time goes on they will realise they were made for each other.

I can't get over Dan calling himself geeky. He certainly isn't, but doesn't it highlight how full of insecurities we all are? And how our perception of ourselves is almost always completely different to how other people see us?

Even if he was geeky, there's nothing wrong with that! Some of the most attractive men I know could be described in that way.

OP posts:
covetingthepreciousthings · 13/01/2019 14:45

Thanks @Bootsuit , also a bit gutted that they didn't stay together, but glad they're still friends.

I wondered if they had any previous dance experience (maybe missed this on the show) but was interesting to hear that he was a line dancing world champion!

mummmy2017 · 13/01/2019 14:49

Dan and luke are now just friends...
But sad.

Stickystickystickstick · 18/01/2019 06:46

Did you all watch again last.night? I liked the concept of the first dance (and how she seemed really shocked he was the drummer).but didnt think the dance was too amazing, the second dance was brilliant amd they seemed to have a genuine connection - nice to see one out of the four couples have progressed their relationship (if i am allowed to call it that lol) they seem to genuinley like each other 😁

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 18/01/2019 08:54

Are you there, MrsFiddymont? I haven't watched it yet.

Was it as good as last week?

I'm still enjoying Dan and Luke. I've watched their dance so many times just to cheer myself up!
