How does Rossi from Criminal Minds afford his house?

I've had a bit of a binge watch while I have a free trial of Amazon Prime. There is occasional stuff set in Rossi's house which looks gorgeous and expensive, then on one episode Rossi caught a serial killer planning to bury his latest victim on Rossi's land and the serial killer mentioned that it was quite a big estate, I think he said 120 acres.

Is the money from book sales? All the other agents seem to live in fairly ordinary suburban houses and apartments.

I'm not sure, but it's long been implied in the show, that Rossi is rather wealthy. I recall a scene (the context escapes me), where he mentions that the price of gold is going up, and he isn't sure when to sell the gold stock he has invested in. It could possibly come from his book sales, but perhaps is family money, it's never really been fully explained.

Ah, I did think that perhaps it had come from the books after his marriages, because four divorces that take half your marital assets would reduce an inherited fortune quite a bit (although one of the marriages was annulled after 36 hours, so that probably doesn't count). But he also seems very comfortable with the money, so perhaps he's always been rich.

He is a best selling author multiple times over as well as consultant fees from FBI and maybe speaking at universities too.

I had a quick look at real estate within commuting distance of Quantico and there was a rather attractive 100 acre property with lake access for $30m. Also, Quantico is HUGE and you can't Google Street View any of it.
