I've finished watching la casa de papel/money heist and elite which we're both amazing. does anyone have a recommendation of any similar series preferably in Spanish as I'm currently learning so it helps however even in any other language I don't mind.
They were both absolutely brilliant and can't wait for elite season 2 but it's not going to be out for a while yet.

Ministry of time on Netflix is brilliant

Catandchicken · 04/01/2019 18:28

Started watched La Peste (French name but Spanish series on Amazon) - seemed really good. I quite liked Mar de Plástico (Netflix). BBC 4 - "I know who you are" was good, too. Some great films - Julieta, Roma, 7 anos, 100 metros, El Faro de las Orcas, Boy missing.

Hope you enjoy.

jokesonme · 04/01/2019 20:31

Thank you catsandchicken I have already seen boy missing and Julieta and enjoyed those but I will Google the rest.
I tried mar de plastico but couldn't get into it unfortunetly.
The invisible guest is actually another good Spanish movie and also lifeline on Walter presents was a good watch.

You could try any of the Narcos series - though mostly in English, there is a lot of Spanish spoken. They certainly helped me keep up with my grasp of the language, as well as being very accurate with historical details.

Shepherdspy83 · 04/01/2019 22:31

Or going down the narcos route... pablo Escobar- el patron del mal is on Netflix. It's the Colombian series about Escobar, it's got a more Spanish soap opera feel to it at times but really in depth and the guy that plays pablo is absolutely amazing. It's also a really long so good for Spanish skills, but requires a certain commitment 😀

Redland12 · 04/01/2019 23:09

As catandchicken said, I know who you are!! It was absolutely gripping. Loved it. I’m also learning Spanish so it was even better.

Glad to stumble across this thread.

Where can i find 'I know who you are? ' it's no longer available on iPlayer.

I did watch Nicky jam el ganador on Netflix too which is about the life of reaggaeton singlet Nicky Jam, lots of sex drugs and violence as you'd expect but it was a very insightful look into his life which at times felt as though it couldn't possibly be real. I found it particularly interesting because Ive listened to his current music but even if you haven't it's very good.

We hated "I know who you are" by the end. Great start but just dragged on and became silly.
Love Ministerio and have heard people rave about House of Flowers but haven't got round to watching it yet.

donajimena · 06/01/2019 09:48

I'm place marking here but I found a really good series on youtube for Spanish learners. It was beyond cheesy but because it was for learners it went from basic to quite advanced as the series progressed. I'll see if I can find it

I also buy Spanish DVD’s from eBay, I’m watching Volver with Penelope Cruz at the moment, it’s good as it has subtitles.

jokesonme · 06/01/2019 10:18

thanks donajimena but that is far too cheesy for me, couldn't get past 2 minutes of it Grin. Even my son was saying " How cringe"

has anyone tried La Mante? it's French not Spanish but it is a mystery, looks good but episode one was slow. Don't know if I should stick to it.

This is French but Kabul Kitchen on Walter presents is very enjoyable.

Andylion · 07/01/2019 21:33

Do have Morocco: Love in Times of War on UK Netflx? Also, Velvet.
I second (or third) Ministry of Time.

MacarenaFerreiro · 11/01/2019 13:03

Ministerio del Tiempo is very good.

Also recommend "Grand Hotel" which is a period drama thing. Very Spanish soap-opera style, lots happening, endless affairs, murders, wicked villains... it's lots of fun.

Also enjoyed Locked Up - not sure if it's on Netflix but you can get it through 4OD.

LunaLunitaLunera · 13/01/2019 05:25

I enjoyed El Marginal on Netflix.

LunaLunitaLunera · 13/01/2019 05:29

Perdida is also good, the actress is married to Micheal BublÄ—.

AndCallMeNancy · 13/01/2019 23:32

Me and DH speak some rusty Spanish so enjoy watching Spanish subtitled stuff too. Locked Up on All4 is good.
Movies-wise I love anything by Apanish film-maker Pedro Almodovar.

jenelleyg · 15/01/2019 21:03

Has anyone tried The inmate? I'm about to watch that now. I too Spanish series I'll be giving all of these a try.

PlumCakeChica · 27/01/2019 21:35

Sé quién eres - was really good until the last few episodes. I’m also looking for more Spanish thrillers.
