Hello lovely people of mumsnet,

I’ve been scratching my head for a while about a programme I used to watch as a school age child, we only ever had normal TV, so it must have been on CBBC or possibly ITV.

Would have been around mid 90s and it was always on after school and marketed as a bit of a scary programme. The presenters would always say to hide behind your cushions before it came on...

All I remember was children, often being outside wearing wool hats and I think it involved some sort of going back in time/castles. One vivid memory from one episode was them picking a glove up from the floor and there was a hand made of concrete underneath...

Sorry it’s so vague, but I know some people have amazing memories for these things!

Are you afraid of the dark?

Nottsangel2015 · 01/01/2019 19:59

Round the twist? That was super weird and sometimes scary! Was definitely on normal tv when I was a kid in the mid 90's

BrownBirdsFly · 01/01/2019 20:04

Thanks for both the suggestions but I remember both those programmes quite well and it definitely wasn’t those... do love the round the twist theme tune though Smile

Goosebumps?

MrsNai · 01/01/2019 20:18

Elidor? Or the Weirdstone of Brisingarman.

Really scared me and featured real life but they went into a terrifying other place.

winecigsandchoc · 01/01/2019 20:18

The demon headmaster? About a girl with a magical 50p and well, a demon headmaster?

MissionItsPossible · 01/01/2019 20:18

Was it an acted show or was it a game show? There was one where they had to escape from a haunted tower and if they didn’t escape they got locked in “forever”. Let me have a quick google...

Hmm, ok possibly called Terror Towers and it was presented by Dave Benson Phillips but there doesn’t seem to be any info on it apart from one site that you have to sign up for.

Century falls? Written by Russell T Davies who did Doctor Who a few years later? Proper scary stuff for children

CaptainCallisto · 01/01/2019 20:19

Elidor. I had it on video - mostly because it scared the crap out of my little sister Grin

MissionItsPossible · 01/01/2019 20:19

@winecigsandchoc

They’re two separate shows Grin the girl with the magic 50p was called The Queen’s Nose.

TheLazyDuchess · 01/01/2019 20:20

The magic 50p show was "the queens nose" I think?

BrownBirdsFly · 01/01/2019 20:22

@mrsnai it was Elidor!!! Thank you so much. I’ve found a clip on YouTube and it was definitely this, I can see why it terrified me now watching it back... thanks everyone for all your suggestions, it’s been a blast from the past Smile
