Feeling a bit bereft at finishing Mad Men. I absolutely loved it! What can replace it with?

Did you see Pan Am? I really loved it but they only did one series of it - I don't know why it wasn't recommissioned. Set in the 1960's, beautifully filmed, beautiful people, beautiful sets and scenery. I'm rewatching it this week.

Breaking Bad? Complex plots and flawed protagonist.

The Crown? Beautiful costumes, historic and well shot.

Orange is the New Black? I just think it's brilliant

Stygimoloch · 29/12/2018 11:27

Scarlet will check that out. Thanks.

Silver watched and loved all of those. Looks like we have similar tastes!

Rewatch or watch for the first time West Wing

Stygimoloch · 29/12/2018 11:47

I haven’t seen any West Wing. Is it excellent?

Love West Wing, but it is a big commitment, many series.

yikesanotherbooboo · 29/12/2018 11:54

It is fantastic imo.

SilverBirchTree · 29/12/2018 21:28

I LOVE the West Wing.

Would be interesting to watch it now, to contrast Jed Bartletts approach to Trumps

ourkidmolly · 29/12/2018 21:49

I loved all of these but just couldn't get into The West Wing. Tried really hard and watched 10 episodes but it just felt like really hard work. Disappointed.

Accountant222 · 29/12/2018 22:07

I loved Mad Men and was gutted when it finished. Currently watching Power, totally different but gripping

Stygimoloch · 29/12/2018 23:32

I’ve never seen The Sopranos but have heard great things about it. Wonder whether that’s worth a try? I thought it would be on Netflix though but apparently not. West Wing doesn’t seem to be on either.

Yes to West Wing and Sopranos.

Also
Orange is the new Black
Better Call Saul
The Wire
Narcos
El Chapo

And the Scandinavian ones : Borgen and the Bridge

CantstandmLMs · 29/12/2018 23:47

I think you would love The West Wing! Anything Aaron Sorkin is brilliant if you love good dialogue and The Newsroom was also fantastic!

The wire is incredible. I only got into it properly during S2 I thankfully made the commitment because I invested in the entire box set. Thankful I did as it is indeed one of the best TV shows ever created.

cromwell44 · 29/12/2018 23:52

Bergen is great and also The Americans, six series and complex, rounded, characters so a bit like Mad Men.

JustGettingStarted · 29/12/2018 23:54

If you want more of that era of New York glamour, check out Marvellous Mrs Maisel.

SwearyInn · 29/12/2018 23:54

Yes definitely the Americans. Forgot about that one.

GlitterPixie · 29/12/2018 23:58

Suits

GoldenBuns · 30/12/2018 00:02

Nothing will ever match Mad Men, unfortunately! The Man in the High Castle is excellent and I also really enjoyed Masters of Sex.

popcornwizard · 30/12/2018 08:32

Just watch it again and marvel at the best ending scene ever.

SorrelForbes · 30/12/2018 08:35

Boardwalk Empire
The Americans

mateysmum · 30/12/2018 08:38

Man in the High Castle (Amazon)

Stygimoloch · 30/12/2018 09:24

I loved the ending of Mad Men. I thought the whole series was some of the best tv I’ve ever seen. I only finished it on Friday and I’m lost! I miss the characters.

OP posts:
alltalknobaby · 30/12/2018 09:35

Where did you find the ending of Madmen? I watched it on Netflix and they only have half of the final series 🤦🏻‍♀️

Stygimoloch · 30/12/2018 09:40

I watched it all on Netflix. The last episode is called ‘Person to Person’ and is on there.

Easily the most gripping series I've ever seen was from the Channel 4 Walter Presents series - the Spanish prison drama 'Locked Up'
