Child Friendly video app

My 3 yo is constantly tuning into YouTube to watch their favorite shows. Unfortunately he is usually diverted to inappropriate material and I've had to confiscate the phone on many occasions (much to his annoyance I might add)

Can anyone recommend a good child friendly video app?

Have tried YouTube kids but don't like the constant adverts.

A DVD. He doesn't need the phone.

faithinthesound - DVDs are not practical. what do you do when you're out in public and trying to calm down a 3 year old that's having a tantrum?

What did people do when their three year old was out in public throwing a tantrum before smartphones and YouTube were a thing?

I'm 34, and I was never handed a smartphone at three, and somehow, miraculously, my mother managed to teach me without one that tantrums were not appropriate or acceptable.

She must have resorted to witchcraft. Surely there's no possible way to get through this without the use of electronics (!)
