BBC question time - Fiona Bruce replacing Dimbleby. Thoughts?

I'm glad in many ways it's a woman.

But I'm concerned she may not be assertive enough. I think there's other people could possibly have been better on this score.

What do you think?

I'm surprised. She's not a reporter, does light stuff - antiques and the art show, so she's not what I'd call a "griller".

jessstan2 · 07/12/2018 17:05

Good choice. I like her, her voice is just right. I don't think she'll be a pushover but obviously it'll take a few episodes for her to settle in.

Well done Fiona Bruce.

PerkingFaintly · 07/12/2018 17:12

I think she'll be excellent.

She is a reporter.

Bruce has worked at the BBC since 1990, when she began her career as a researcher on Panorama. The 54-year-old went on to become a reporter on the programme and also on Newsnight. Bruce also co-hosted Crimewatch on BBC One for eight years. In 2001, she became the first female presenter to be part of the BBC's general election studio team.

PerkingFaintly · 07/12/2018 17:18

In fact I saw the headline and thought, "Ohhh, bet she'll be cracking at it! Really good at handling all the personalities, and bringing them back to the point without turning it into a personal battle."

Graphista · 07/12/2018 17:19

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I also don't know what her politics are. Dimbleby was so ridiculously obviously biased it was getting really annoying! Shutting down all but the pro-Tory panellists.

hypnotizzz · 07/12/2018 17:23

I think she'll be good at it. She strikes me as able to be assertive and pleasant at the same time.

Belindabelle · 07/12/2018 17:35

I don't like her. Not sure why she just irritates me.

It absolutely had to be a woman this time. I thought Kirsty Young would be good but she is ill at the moment.

Graphista · 07/12/2018 19:47

Funnily enough I think fern Britton could have been good at it.

Or fiona Phillips.

Shame Kate Adie's retired from journalism she'd have pulled no punches!

Shutting down all but the pro-Tory panellists

How strange, I watch every week and would have argued the complete opposite

UrsulaPandress · 07/12/2018 22:40

Fiona Philips ShockShockShock

Graphista · 08/12/2018 00:37

Bejazzled - honestly I have on occasion noted roughly how long he lets pro Tory panellists speak for v other panellists, he lets them speak for at least twice as long usually.

He also cuts off the non Tory panellists when they're being directly critical of Tory panellists.

Yes fiona Phillips she is a trained journalist with a determined approach and has asked tough questions of politicians and similar even though she's better known for lighter journalism. I think she could step up.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 08/12/2018 00:56

I like her but think she'll be too nice

It had to be a woman and that is a good move.

However, Janet Street Porter gets my vote with Germaine Greer a close second Grin

Mrsjohnmurphy · 08/12/2018 01:09

Holy hell anyone but Janet street porter, who was the woman who originally on loose women? Scottish, I liked her. She will probably be fine, question time hardly gets to the nub of issues, it's just the usual blah blah from politicians and the occasional mostly lame views from a random.

Graphista · 08/12/2018 01:49

Kaye Adams yes she'd have been good but she's kinda busy with her job on BBC radio Scotland.

OP posts:
Belindabelle · 08/12/2018 10:01

I think that’s a problem. Kay Adams and Kirsty Wark have jobs that allow them to maintain their family lives in Scotland and probably didn’t want to change that.

Mind you QT only films one evening per week.

How long do you think it will be before some one comments on what Fiona Bruce is wearing?

FlamingJuno · 08/12/2018 10:05

Kirsty Wark would be the obvious choice. Emily Maitlis another. I'm interested to see how Fiona Bruce tackles it - I suspect we'll see a side toher we haven't seen before.

Graphista · 08/12/2018 15:47

It's filmed during the day, edited then screened the same night I believe.

I once applied to go on but was unsuccessful.

I'd love to see a scot on it but I don't think it'll happen, suppose I should be happy a half Scot woman is.

CharltonLido73 · 08/12/2018 20:24

Kirsty Wark would be the obvious choice. Emily Maitlis another.

Those were my two top choices, too.

SuperSuperSuper · 08/12/2018 22:54

I'd have liked Kirsty Wark but I think that FB is a very good choice too.

eddiemairswife · 08/12/2018 23:05

When I went to it, it was recorded in the early evening. I got home in time to see it .
I'm not keen on Fiona Bruce; I find her a bit wishy-washy.

AlessandroVasectomi · 08/12/2018 23:06

If she can keep the rambling Barry Gardiner succinct and on point, she’ll be doing well. What an old windbag.
