Anyone watching the ‘twisted faith’ shows on C&I?

I’m not sure if it’s just this week or for longer but Crime and Investigation (Sky 156) are showing a load of programmes about cults this week if anyone’s interested in that type of thing. I know I am!

Watched the Leah Rimini JW Show today which aired last night. I found it really interesting because it bore no resemblance to my own experience of JW. My PIL are JW, their kids are not and yet we are all really close. DH has done work for many members of the congregation, I’ve met many too and they’ve all been lovely. One guy was a bit snooty when I told him who my PIL were after he knocked on the door. Implying that they should be doing more to bring us in, why were they not talking to us about it etc. I told MIL about this, and she just rolled her eyes and said ‘oh, him 🙄’ . And then said ‘Can you imagine trying to talk to MrCurlsnCurves about spirituality?’

Maybe they’re just a more liberal JW than those in the show...
Anyway there looks to be some interesting shows on throughout this week.

I have to admit, I am a sucker for anything cult like.
I do joke that one day if the family wake up and I'm not there, check Scientology. (I know all the bad sides to it etc, but I'm so nosey!)
The one tonight I think it's called Cults and Taboos? That's set in the UK which I find I enjoy more?
I love the USA side of cults etc as theirs seem to be so much more explosive but again, the JW's I know are nothing compared to what was being said last night.
It's on for the whole week, so my SKY planner will be fully stocked up. I'm going through a bit of a 'poor me' day today so I'm planning pizza and cults.

@BrokenSkin yay, someone like me!

Got Cults and taboos and another one recording tonight. Religion, faith, cults etc has always fascinated me.

If you like podcasts, I can massively recommend Zealot. The woman behind this is absolutely fantastic. And hilarious too.

@CurlsandCurves I love everything about cults. The amazement I have that people actually follow to the ends of the earth for someone (or something!) I'll continuously be amazed at Jamestown. Scientology has me very intrigued.
I have them all recorded ready to binge watch. Isn't the mind something else? To be told to burn yourself, eat yourself and even kill yourself because someone who you hold to a greater good, told you so.
It's like going against everything your body screams as being natural.
Cut off your family forever. OK!
Oh I love Podcasts. Thank you!

I’m also rather fascinated by cults, sects and the religious fringe. Don’t have Sky though so will have to catch these programmes some other way.

The JWs are very interesting I think. Their persecution by the Nazis was absolutely terrible yet, as I understand it, almost all refused to renounce their faith or assist the regime, even in the face of concentration camps and appalling torture.

(I’ve no connection with the JWs. Just interested.)
