Liam Bakes

I couldn't see a thread on this so decided to start one.

I watched this last night on 4 because I thought Liam from last year's GBBO was a lovely lad and it would be good to watch him on his own show. I was prepared for the presentation style to be a bit frenetic because he is young and they are probably trying to get the show to appeal to the younger generation.

However, I can't see myself attempting any of those bakes. Everything just seemed a bit OTT. I like cake as much as the next woman but these bakes seemed to be one sweet thing piled on top of yet another sweet thing stuck together with even more sweet things. And when did cakes have to become so tall? Four layers! I mean how do you eat a cake that is more than two layers? Just too big. IMO.

Having said that I wish him well. Presumably there will be a book deal to go with the show.

Yes, it wasn't great. Very reminiscent of early Jamie but with cake.

It was all a bit sickly. Turned over, I'm afraid

I enjoyed the program, will never make the cakes though

Health advisers complaining about freak shakes today. These were the cake equivalent - freak cakes?

He does have a book, yes.

It was all a bit sub-Jamie Oliver from the 90s: an 'apartment' that manifestly isn't his, mates coming round, yoof talk. He seems to have borrowed JO's hand gestures too.

Having said that, he seems like a nice enough guy. And there's something quite sweet about a load of urban late-teenagers going wild over some cake at a party Grin

I've just given this a 2nd go. Have to say I'm finding him really annoying which is a shame as I liked him on GBBO.

longwayoff · 20/11/2018 06:33

Im afraid I agree veg, not substantial enough in content and not engaging enough as a presenter. They need to pair him up with someone but this is not his natural home.

ppeatfruit · 20/11/2018 08:58

I watched for the ist time last night. He's sooooo nervous give him time and more down to earth recipes and I'm sure he'll improve. I liked his mum. She's so proud of him it was nice to see.

Agree it's like the original naked chef series in style. I only managed half the first episode though.
Liam was so likeable on bake-off , channel 4 have not found the right vehicle for him. In my head I was unfairly comparing it to those lovely Nadiya programmes, which totally suited her and her cooking style.
