I expected more from this. It wasn't bad, but it felt rushed badly cut and like a lot had been cut from it. Think a series would have made it much better, even just one series. It's a shame. The battle scenes are well done though. Chris pine isn't bad either, accent isn't bad. I swear I heard one guy though that sounded more Russian than Scottish. Grin

Watched it last night (nothing to do with the famous penis scene Grin ) and feel the same.
There was no room for character development or for events to build up. It was all so rushed. Can't believe they stopped before the Battle of Bannockburn!

Agree it would have been better as a series.

StoorieHoose · 12/11/2018 17:47

As far as I know it's a trilogy so they will get to Bannockburn eventually. It was okay nothing outstanding apart from spotting the filming locations

KeiTeNgeNge · 12/11/2018 17:49

It did feel very rushed and played fast and loose with elements of history. I did enjoy it though

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 12/11/2018 17:50

Ah, it's a trilogy... it's strange that they should have had the written ending then.

Oh well, I daresay I'll watch the others too; I'm from Fife and had a huge crush on The Bruce as a child.

Santaclarita · 12/11/2018 20:33

It's a trilogy? That ending was strange for a trilogy.

Why was the ending strange? He defeated the English at Louden Hill and his wife was returned as part of a hostage swap. I really don't think Netflix will spend £100 million on telling the story of Robert the Bruce and end at at Louden Hill and not cover Bannockburn

StoorieHoose · 12/11/2018 20:47

Irritatingly I can only find the mention of a trilogy in with the Sun or the Daily record but I'm sure I've read about it some where more credible than those two rags

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 12/11/2018 21:57

But Stoorie it's strange that they should fill in the details at the end (about the prisoner swap etc.) if they're going to continue the story anyway? Smile
Not sure.
I would like to see Bannockburn, though!

Stardustmemories · 12/11/2018 21:59

We just watched this last night and also thought it was rushed a bit. Or that it cut off very short, like there was more to be told (because obviously there is)
Here’s hoping it is a trilogy because I was enjoying it.

Santaclarita · 13/11/2018 06:13

It's just strange to do the titles bit at the end telling you what happened to people if they are continuing it. Like they said basically that Bruce and wife lived happily ever after. Why do that if they are doing another one? That stuff usually comes at the very end of a story, not a third of the way through.

Thought it was pretty good. Agree it would have been better as a series. I watched it in 40 minute chunks and that worked pretty well- just wish there were 10 or 12 chunks.

Chris Pine was better than I expected and so was Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/12/2018 07:17

I didn't like it at all. The characters were simplistic, and they took absolute liberties with the history.

The costumes were good though, they got them right.
