New series started last night. I love it. It had me on the edge of my seat when the weighted truck was set off down each bridge. Any other fans out there?

I love watching this show, its especially great to see the kids doing really well and taking part. I loved the crocodile entrance to the skyscraper.

Owlwantstoshare · 07/11/2018 17:13

Same here. And I love how each team was watching the truck go over all the bridges with their hands to their faces. It’s just such a feel good and interesting programme.

I'm in! Those two little lads are adorableSmile
Gosh, how lego has moved on since ds used to give me a job before he went off to bed, to be ready the next morning, garage with parking on the roof and a ramp a specialityGrin

Owlwantstoshare · 07/11/2018 22:49

The little lads are such sweeties and soooo talented and imaginative. I know what you mean about Lego moving on. I inherited my older brothers’ box and all the main bricks were white, window frames and roof tiles were red and I think that was it as far as colours went. No kits (or if there were we didn’t have any). When I look round the Lego shop now getting ideas for DGCs presents I am amazed at the wondrous things on offer.

Saw the end by accident whilst channel surfing - god the end was tough when you see all their little faces- i was really struggling. Great idea though, might tune it to watch with my son.

JasperRising · 08/11/2018 10:43

I love this show! I always start worrying it is unfair having pairs of primary school kids up against pairs of adults in the engineering type tasks (I seem to remember there being engineering students on the last series) but then the kids tend to do well on the imagination aspects (and it seems I underestimate their engineering skills)!

CaptainHammer · 08/11/2018 10:46

I love this programme. Last years was such a nice watch with all the teams helping and supporting each other.

Owlwantstoshare · 08/11/2018 14:46

That was my thought too that it’s such an uneven match ie 10 year olds against adult architects/engineers but I agree it’s on the imagination side the younger ones come into their own. I know the teams selected are the best in the country though so they are going to be punching above their age I guess.

Aside from the fact we all love this show in our house, the lady judge is a tad overdressed tonight

Thesearmsofmine · 13/11/2018 21:50

We love this show, I haven’t seen tonight’s episodes as am saving it to watch with my boys tomorrow. My 6 year old has been working on his own Lego skyscraper all week!

AviatorShades · 14/11/2018 10:39

I'm really disliking that pushy dad who's bossing his daughter around and taking over Shock
Still loving the young lads, glad they're still in the gameSmile

AviatorShades · 14/11/2018 10:45

owlwanstoshare - the red roofing tiles and other bricks white, yes! but we were living on the continong and also had green shutters.Did you not have those?

jay55 · 14/11/2018 12:14

The young boys castle and waterfall really was brilliant. They are really there on merit. But it is so conflicting to have such young ones on these sort of shows, the faces of the young brother and sister who expected to go were so sad.

DarlingNikita · 14/11/2018 13:39

Just caught up with the first episode. I like the building, the teams and their camaraderie, the competition itself and Matthew thingy from Lego.

But the style of the show is so tiring. The presenter shouts every second word. The 'testing' of the bridges with the truck, with endless slow-mo reruns, was so naff. The 'here's what we've done! and here's what we're doing next!' is seemingly aimed at the lowest common denominator.

Do they think we're so short on attention span that we need this constant yelling and manufactured 'excitement'?

I honestly don't know if I can watch any more. It's exhausting.

SmallDalek · 14/11/2018 15:03

owlwantstoshare here with new name. I vaguely remember some green bits aviator so we might have had shutters.

I’m also getting a bit exasperated with the dad who’s taking over and not working as a duo with his daughter very well and same with the uncle and nephew (who is being give the tedious assembly tasks). Not sure what to think of the first challenge. Seemed a bit pointless somehow. The young boys did so well. Such imagination and their moving parts all worked well. They’re a great team.

OrraBoralis · 15/11/2018 20:35

I started a thread last week and no one joined in but I'm glad there is an active thread. I have to agree about the 'pushy' dad's and the Uncle, it seems they are not allowing the kids to have much input. I love the two young lads though, they have great ideas. Would like the brother to let his sister actually get her ideas forward and build.

I love the show and just looking at all the bricks makes me happy. #theyoungboys

SmallDalek · 21/11/2018 16:38

Anyone watch last nights? Don’t want to say who won in case anyone not caught up but thought it was a fair choice. Such fun challenges too. Love how the two teams of children work so well together.

JasperRising · 21/11/2018 21:03

I did. I thought it was fair but quite sad! I like how kind some of the other contestants were to the eliminated pair.

HestiasHauntedHandbag · 21/11/2018 21:09

Yes we are fans here too! The DCs love it.
I think the Dad and son team are struggling mainly because the dad is taking over too much and not letting his son contribute ideas.
It seems it’s definitely the kids who have the best imaginations for sure!

Growingboys · 21/11/2018 21:11

I've never heard of this but my DC are Lego obsessed - where and when are you watching it please???

haggisaggis · 21/11/2018 21:17

It’s on Channel 4 on Tuesdays 8 pm - think it’s available on All 4.
What is interesting about it is that there are kid teams, adult teams and mixed - and they’re all on a level playing field. The adults tend to better on the more technical tasks but the kids better on the imaginative things so works well.

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 21/11/2018 21:17

Channel 4, 8pm on a Tuesday, but it’s available on demand. The first series probably also available.

Growingboys · 22/11/2018 16:39

Thanks so much, that's great!

AviatorShades · 23/11/2018 13:47

The young boys mentioned that they have a Lego Club at school? Hope that they're getting good support and ideas there. Will be so sad to see them leave, but with pushy engineering dad etc. I think it's a givenShock

Just not right, is it?Sad

SmallDalek · 23/11/2018 15:23

Aviator it isn’t exactly a level playing field. Maybe they need different competitions like Masterchef, Junior Masterchef and Professional Masterchef. If it wasn’t such a niche activity they might be able to do that but as it stands pitching an engineer against an 8 year old doesn’t seem fair at all. 🙄. The two boys are my favourites. Such enthusiasm and so resilient.
