Sheridan Smith Doco on ITV

So I really like her and think she’s super down to earth and tries to be an authentic person despite the profession she’s chosen.

Watched the ITV doc tonight and it was a bit odd and at times she seemed a little self-obsessed but she’s obviously had some issues with depression and anxiety and I think she’s probably on meds though that is an assumption and not fact.

At times it seemed like an extended ad for her new album and yes, I did think why was it all about her pain at losing her dad when her mum had lost her husband and that was hardly addressed.

HOWEVER. I then had the misfortune to see how fucking horrible people were being about her on Twitter because of this programme and am gobsmacked.

Fuck sake. People are so terribly hard and judgmental these days and it’s all over social media.

It would be so easy to get up tomorrow and post horrible shite about anyone in the public eye while I sat behind my computer and ate my toast and it had zero impact on my life.

But this girl seems really genuine and yet still, Internet cunts think it’s ok to have such a go at her.

Anyway. That’s my two pennorth.

She seems a really nice girl and I’m sure she would hate to be portrayed this way.

I watched it and cringed at some of it she is certainly all about me and dramatic but I like her i don't do twitter because i think it is now used to abuse people if she is getting a hard time I feel for her.

Clawdy · 05/11/2018 09:22

She's so talented, but very troubled. I don't think the endless interviews and publicity at the moment is really a good thing for her.

MrsJayy · 05/11/2018 09:27

I think she just wants to get her album out and work but I don't think her last album did very well and she is flogging this one

MrsJayy · 05/11/2018 09:28

I don't understand why she does these "specials" to promote her music they are a bit to dramatic imo.

beyondthesky · 05/11/2018 10:36

Strange relationship with her mum. Not visiting her when she arrived and then her mum was just in the audience at the end and not in pride of place as you would think she would be.

She also didn't seem to have any understanding or concern of her mother's grief.

Mum and auntie definitely quite odd..

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/11/2018 10:42

I only saw part of this programme and haven't looked at Twitter but I don't think she did herself any favours at all, unfortunately.

whatsthestory123 · 05/11/2018 10:48

Just cant warm to her,a troubled soul i think

MawkishTwaddle · 05/11/2018 11:02

Saw a bit of it. She seemed pissed. I wasn't very impressed at the idea of using a family bereavement to flog an album either.

nowifi · 05/11/2018 12:12

I don't have a problem with her but found it odd as she said she hasn't been 'home'? What about her fathers funeral etc?

I think she is likeable but definitely has some issues, and an odd family dynamic going on. Agree she didn't seem to think about her mother's grief either? Strange.

MrsJayy · 05/11/2018 12:32

Yes driving past her mums house was odd. I think her dad raised her by what she was saying.

AlexanderHamilton · 05/11/2018 12:35

We met her 9 years ago at a CD signing when she was in Legally Blonde. She was absolutely lovely to dd (aged 8) and she is so talented.

Lots of people go off the rails a bit when they lose a parent. My own dad did and so did my mil.

Crunched · 05/11/2018 12:42

Was/is there a third sibling? I thought I saw another (male) name on her 18 year old brothers tomb stone?
Maybe I misunderstood as he was never referenced.

AlexanderHamilton · 05/11/2018 12:55

I didn;t see the programme but Sheridan has a brother who was on The Voice (didn't get through) a couple of years ago.

MadameGazelleIsMyHomegirl · 05/11/2018 13:05

I only tuned in part way thru. Who was the woman with the bow on her head sitting with her mum? I agree she seems troubled, and a bit self obsessed. I felt quite sorry for her.

MrsJayy · 05/11/2018 13:15

That was her Auntie sheridan said she was bonkers.

CoolCarrie · 05/11/2018 13:31

I like her, she was great in The 12 Days Of Christine, and as Lisa Lynch in The C Word, but it really was just an advert for her new album, and she clearly is one of those who think they are “national treasures” and like to play up to that.

CoolCarrie · 05/11/2018 13:34

However she certainly is talented and doesn’t deserve abuse on Twitter or any where else.

BlancheM · 05/11/2018 13:42

I found the programme really strange, the way it presented her as a national treasure but I soon clicked on it was an extended advert.
I don't do twitter but she doesn't deserve the abuse

BlancheM · 05/11/2018 13:43

Oops I've managed to crosspost, I didn't see the previous comments

BakedBeans47 · 05/11/2018 13:51

I love her but agree the programme was rather odd.

MrsJayy · 05/11/2018 13:55

Its obviously her management/record company who had this idea i get she had it tough but she doesn't need to put herself on show like that and her boyfriend personally I wouldn't trust as far as Icould throw

Darklene · 05/11/2018 14:38

I so hope her boyfriend is genuine and makes her happy. She has some lovely dogs and you can tell she adores them.

I hope she didn’t read Twitter today.

She has been working on sorting out her anxiety meds. There was a candid interview in the guardian at the weekend.

I like her, she's a talented actress. However this program was incredibly cringy and naff. She doesn't have a particularly remarkable voice. The 'playing guitar while on a tree swing' scene was quite laughable and it did seem like a Peter Kay spoof. And her attitude to her mother was weird, as she seemed on the surface to have a normal loving relationship with her otherwise.

Apparently she got engaged to the new bloke three months after meeting him on Tinder, and whilst grieving. I wonder if she struggles with being alone hence all the dogs.

The album advert was dreadfully cringey. She has been let down by those around her in their marketing of her I think. She was portrayed much better on her episode of WDYTYA, although even then I remember thinking her relationship with her dad was oddly close, almost obsessive, and I wondered if her mom felt left out by it.

borderline11 · 06/11/2018 19:22

It was very odd the way she got her boyfriend to drive past her mums house, and then to see her at the gig before she’d even visited her. A bit self absorbed i thought.
