Anyone watching? I don't like either of the houses. Hate the pictures all of the floor, the plywood and exposed pipes. And it's a bit commune and weird. Plus they are so achingly trendy and cool.

Nobody builds home's, they build houses that look like holiday lodges all raw materials, huge open rooms and no bloody storage ! They look cold and like you couldn't relax as you'd make it untidy.

WipsGlitter · 17/10/2018 22:03

Yes! They looked really cold!! Bring back fitted carpets!

I'm watching on +1, first time I've watched Grand Designs in ages. I'm worried the pond is going to breach Grin

It looked like an ikea magazine in one house.

That industrial aesthetic inside will go out of fashion if it hasn't already. Having said that was huge.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 17/10/2018 22:21

I love Kevin's array of puffa jackets Grin

justchangingagain · 17/10/2018 23:00

God they are hideous.

I quite liked them but they were fairly imposing. Made me wonder what the neighbours thought - their houses were dwarfed. Did the programme say there had been an old office block/warehouse on the site prior? Maybe these houses are an improvement.

You'd need to have a regular window cleaner! I didn't register blinds on the windows (i.e. fancy electric ones).
I didn't like the lights hanging from wires or the plywood screwed on (with exposed screws? Ugly). The blocks and steel were kind of okay! And yes, where do they keep all their stuff Hmm

The brother with the smaller house (originally) was less successful overall imo. The proportions seemed a bit odd and some of the bedrooms were really pokey/cell like Shock Also - having a galley kitchen in a house that size? Not sure how old all the kids are/ how much time they spend there - perhaps it works for them. I appreciate he was restricted once the build started - circumstances changed, money was tight; the potential for redesign was limited.

I'm sure it will look better once the plot is finished and softened with planting and the wheel area finished. I wonder if it will be on the market in five years' time as a lot of Grand Designs are Grin

Agree I didn't like them! Thought the house they were renting at the start looked nicer Blush

I missed a bit in the middle - did ones marriage break up during it or was he single and met someone.

They were so tick box trendy / cool right down to what they were wearing.

I thought he was separated/divorced with 2 kids (?) but met his new partner (who also had 2 kids) during the build. He proposed a year after first meeting her.

I wondered if she was pregnant by the end of the build (in typical Grand Designs style!) Her green dress looked a bit like it was concealing a bump.

The flat cap in every scene made me chortle.

TimesNewRoman · 18/10/2018 12:03

Did you see the kids bed rooms? Surely no one would want to sleep in a room like that let alone kids? But what do i know. Wonder how it will all pan out.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 18/10/2018 12:48

I thought they looked like cells Grin
The proportions might've looked okay on paper but once you put a double bed in all the space was immediately taken up! No other bedroom furniture either Wink
I wonder if his kids are tweens/teens and spend every other weekend and part of the holidays there with limited belongings. They're still going to have some stuff Grin

Still not loving the ply but I'd happily live in the bigger house Star
