It doesnt seem that long ago since it was on. Has anyone seen it with Uma Thurman? Ive just seen it advertised.

I saw an Australian adaption a few years back... is there another series out?

EachandEveryone · 19/09/2018 16:26

It must be American I think they’ve just released it on channel 4

Been around for a while, quite a good adaptation - disturbing!

Cagliostro · 19/09/2018 18:44

I just started watching this on All4, I have never seen the Australian version. Seems it’s a few years old but still newer. Really enjoying it and would definitely watch again, but gutted I can’t seem to find it on DVD. I don’t really want to buy the Australian one as it may not be as good (or at least won’t be the same...)

Gwenhwyfar · 19/09/2018 21:12

The Slap is Australian. It's not an Australian adaptation!
I'm curious about any other version actually because the original was based on different Australian cultural 'types'.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/09/2018 23:06

I was a bit sceptical as read the book and it’s so Aussie

But they so caught the harry character !

Now on 3 - who plays Uma mum ?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/09/2018 23:15

Uma’s clothes are amazing

Anyone who has read the book, are the Weschler family related to Harry or Hector’s family at all? Or are they just friends of Hector who come to the party?

Cagliostro · 20/09/2018 13:26

Also how do they know Connie, I know she works at the surgery but it seems like they know her from before then with the babysitting etc

disorganisedXX · 20/09/2018 15:43

I would recommend the book, Chris Tsiolkas is very readable, Barracuda is also good.

EachandEveryone · 20/09/2018 18:57

I can’t seem to find it

I thought the book was awful. Not a single sympathetic character in it!

Gwenhwyfar · 20/09/2018 20:45

Caglio - I've read the book, but don't remember who the Weschlers are. In the book Hector and Harry are of Greek origin. The other main family (hippy parents of the spoilt child) are not.
Luna - didn't you find Hector's wife sympathetic?

Lunaballoon · 20/09/2018 21:17

I can’t actually remember now Gwen, all the characters seemed self absorbed dicks.

Cagliostro · 20/09/2018 21:43

Thanks Gwen the weschlers are Hugo and his parents, according to the wiki page about the US version (so could be different in the book/original TV show anyway)

I think I have it on kindle but have never read it 😳

Gwenhwyfar · 21/09/2018 08:04

Hugo being the spoilt child? In the Australian book his parents are hippy types who spoil the child, he's still breast fed as a toddler and they never say no to him. In the book the mother is friends with Hector's wife I think, but not related. I remember a part of the book where Harry goes to see them to apologise and he drives past with disgust for the area they live in. Harry would never have been friends with them - they were at the party because they were invited by Hector's wife.

I don't remember them having a German-sounding name in the book, but I think they were anglo-Australians whereas Hector and Harry are of Greek origin.

Cagliostro · 21/09/2018 09:45

Thank you yes sounds like this version is very similar then. It has become clearer in later episodes (since I posted) that the mum is friends with hector’s wife. I think I heard in episode one that Hugo and family are Jewish, and yes they live in a run down place.

I really must read the book.

ninetyone · 21/09/2018 09:59

Luna - I agree that none of the characters were sympathetic but I that made it more realistic to me Smile

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 21/09/2018 12:05

I am really enjoying it

The episode with Uma was so well done

I don’t hate them either ( bar for harry - Jesus )

diddl · 22/09/2018 15:45

It's the same actress as the mother in this one as was in the original one!

Wonder why the constant need to remake the same stuff?

Cagliostro · 22/09/2018 16:44

I wondered the same, and it must have been very strange acting in both versions a few years apart.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/09/2018 23:42

"Wonder why the constant need to remake the same stuff?"

Americans are always doing it unfortunately. They don't seem capable of watching something from another country even when it's in English.

Cagliostro · 23/09/2018 00:43

It’s bizarre isn’t it. Like the comedies remade over there like Coupling.

I may watch the original Slap at some point. But I like this one, just because it’s the one I happen to have seen IYSWIM. However generally I do like thandie newton’s acting more than sophie okonedo.

And I have discovered I have a bit of a weakness for peter skasgaard’s (hector’s) voice Blush

Was she in the other one ?
