Right. I'm properly creeped out now. Just looked everywhere, washing machine, toilet, you name it. I've been covering some books tonight sitting on the floor. Have a roll of sticky backed plastic. Not much left so very light. It was the first place I checked, under, over, inside. Nothing. I'm a tidy person so I picked it up and put it on one of the sofas.

Came downstairs just now. Walked into lounge, roll slightly open, remote was there.

The weird happening a couple of weeks ago was two objects sitting together in the hall. I hadn't put them there, neither had my dc. We've gone over and over the events and can't account for it.
