Anyone settling down for this? I work in the industry so am keen to see if it's realistic

OP posts:

DH works for one of the major media owners. He said the office set-up looked quite plausible but some bits were wildly out, like the having random photo shoots in an office!

I quite liked Ben Chaplin in it. He’s very charismatic. Whenever I see him I always have to say “TEA MARTIN!!”. He was soooo good looking in Game On.

We shall persevere and watch tonight.

onlyconnect · 13/09/2018 06:59

I quite liked it but saw it as "silly", enjoyable rather than credible. Which is what I think of Bodyguard too- can't believe there have been complaints about that not being realistic. Of course it's not realistic, why would anyone think it is or should be?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/09/2018 12:47

Anyone else think some of the acting is appalling? Especially the lady running The Herald!!!
It’s something to watch to pass away my Friday commute but don’t think this will get another series.

fussychica · 15/09/2018 14:53

We are quite enjoying it, perhaps because it's not about police, serial killers or bonnetsGrin. Not brilliant but not much on terrestial TV is.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/09/2018 15:31

I like it, Ben Chaplin is thoroughly enjoying himself.

BathroomLights · 15/09/2018 16:05

I love it, easy going and like fussy says, no police or killers and therefore not scary, just mellow. It reminds me a bit of Hotel Babylon.

Gersemi · 15/09/2018 23:56

Pawnee, how are you watching the Fourth Estate programme? iPlayer says it's not available Sad

LanaorAna2 · 16/09/2018 00:04

Shit. Only value is it being the final factual proof that the richest media organisations may not be any good at their jobs - ie the BBC. It's the opposite of the point they wanted to make.

Netflix will save us, one hopes.

DarlingNikita · 19/09/2018 12:23

I'm quite enjoying it. It's quite trashy but it's entertaining. I like the interiors (Holly's flat; both of Duncan's homes).

I never fancied Ben C when he was younger but I think he's pretty hot stuff in this. When he was talking to his wife and doing the big-eyes-and-vulnerable thing he looked beautiful, I thought.

Rollergirl11 · 19/09/2018 12:52

100% agree that Ben Chaplin is having a whale of a time playing the lovable rogue. I’m watching it just for him. To the people saying he’s aged badly, he is mid forties. I don’t think he looks any older or any younger than that. I certainly wouldn’t throw him out of my bed!

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/09/2018 08:38

I enjoyed last nights episode. Will Amina get the sack and will Holly be tempted over to the dark side?

Rollergirl11 · 21/09/2018 09:35

It is utterly implausible but good fun all the same. As if anyone would speak to the PM how Ben Chaplin’s character did. Also there not being a paper for that day, when has that ever happened??!

Rollergirl11 · 21/09/2018 09:41

It’s good at showing how all encompassing media is though. You’re never off the job. And probably why so many in the industry are divorced, alcoholic/coke-heads going from one mental breakdown to the next.

MissEliza · 21/09/2018 15:06

I'm really enjoying this series. There's plenty of good characters and acting. Ben Chaplin is doing a great job and I'm really warming to Charlotte Riley's character. I loved the bit where the Post reporter thought he'd tricked his rival only to find she'd double bluffed him.
Can someone explain with BC was determined to embarrass the PM?

DarlingNikita · 25/09/2018 17:36

I thought rather than being determined to embarrass the PM for its own sake, he just wanted an exclusive 'scoop' on the PM and family.

Aridane · 25/09/2018 20:39

I like it!

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/10/2018 05:43

Anyone still watching? I'm rather looking forward to tonight's episode and Holly's first day at The Post!

MissEliza · 04/10/2018 13:07

Yes I'm totally into it after the last two episodes. I don't know anyone else who is watching it though. I guess Holly has basically figured out you can't go after people unless you have the money, hasn't she? Do you think Ben Chaplin apologised to the PM? I hope not.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/10/2018 19:23

I think Ben Chaplin and Holly will have a very interesting relationship - not romantic, but perhaps she'll remind him of why he got into journalism in the first place. He thinks he's corrupting her, but could she have the opposite effect on him?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/10/2018 19:24

I also find Aussie guy strangely attractive. I think he really does have feelings for Amina.

Delatron · 04/10/2018 21:45

Ben Chaplin is 49. Apart from the fact he looks like he has lipstick on, I still would!

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/10/2018 23:23

That was a bit anticlimactic but still, next week's episode looks good. Is it just 6 episodes in the series?

CallaLilli · 05/10/2018 20:21

Enjoying this!
