Great/crap day time TV

For various reasons I've not been able to watch live TV for a few years so we've been living with things like iPlayer and Netflix.

But we're just changing the set up in our house and I'm getting an on demand TV service so I can record all of the naffest TV shows I like. I've really missed being able to access some of the daytime TV nonsense.

But I'm out of the loop. What is worth watching at leisure but is actually just a bit of fun nonsense?

EG I love shows like Judge Judy and Road Wars. Don't like JK although to be fair no one does now and also don't like Homes Under the Hammer which is a secret fave for many Grin

Any recommendations on what myself and a friend call "Shit, but good shit TV?"

(The whole Loose Women saga recently has really made me want to find old episodes of How Clean is Your House on an obscure channel somewhere!)

BBC1 DOCTORS 1.45 SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

there are loads of MNetters who are fans and we have long threads discussing it on here each day SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

New season just started on Monday SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Home on a rare day off and just watched something called bang on budget - with the smiley lady off of homes under the hammer. I love house renovation programmes and esp american ones. My sky box is full of property brothers and flipping programmes, that I watch in secret when dh is at the gym. Also love peoples court - pure mind numbing trash, just what I need after a hard day at work.

GloGirl · 05/09/2018 23:48

Oh Peoples Court sounds exactly like the trash I would love!

Doctors was my first day time TV love! Not sure I could make the commitment to get started again but if it's just started a new season...

I like home makeover problems but did watch 60 minute makeover this week, it was awful. Like a 90s Changing rooms renovation Shock (and by that I mean colour scheme from the 90s) ... But Bang On Budget sounds promising.

I like Judge Rinder so if you like Judge Judy you may like it.

The Posh Frock Shop is good ‘trash tv’ though everybody is so achingly affected (watching the staff perform is part of the appeal though).

DarkDarkNight · 11/09/2018 18:14

Just checked, I don’t think the frock thing is on at daytime.

Butterymuffin · 11/09/2018 18:48

Wanted Down Under. I don't get to watch it often but usually do when I'm off work and there are threads following it on here too.

Elderflower14 · 11/09/2018 19:20

I love all the Oz and NZ police programmes. The fire engines are called firies and the tow trucks are called towies. Also the Border Security programmes....

JustDanceAddict · 11/09/2018 19:28

Def Doctors.

toldmywrath · 11/09/2018 22:41

Oh yes Doctors, fills your criteria perfectly.
p.s Star for cheerleader Subtitles Grin

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/09/2018 22:43

Say Yes to the Dress and anything wedding related.

BonnieF · 11/09/2018 22:51

Great daytime TV : the cricket.

Crap daytime TV : everything else.

GloGirl · 12/09/2018 08:14

@DarkDarkNight let me clarify I don't mean actual day time TV as I can watch it whenever but that calibre of TV Grin

I'm not sure I want to commit to doctors? And they last had a really annoying receptionist in but... you've convinced me I'll give it the week and see if it hooks me!

Love Border Patrol great suggestion I'm on it!

Never tire of Judge Judy.

Elderflower14 · 12/09/2018 21:27

@GloGirl. RE Border Security I never fail to be amazed by a) what they find in cars /cases and b) how people try to hide things and smuggle in by post!! 😲

LARLARLAND · 12/09/2018 21:31

There are often series shown after the Doctos slot on BBC One. A particularly great one is Shakespeare and Hathaway.

DarkDarkNight · 12/09/2018 22:46

Ah well in that case GloGirl my daytime type shows are cheesy detective shows. Murder, She Wrote, Monk and Diagnosis: Murder being the gold standard. I haven’t watched them for years but find them weirdly comforting.

Yes I love the Border Patrol type shows too, especially the Australia one.

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/09/2018 18:36

I like Neighbours and Home and Away.
The film on channel five is often good too, in a totally crap way.

MindatWork · 13/09/2018 18:43

Another vote for Wanted Down Under! DH has now got really really into it with me and we watch it on catch up at the weekends Grin.

Each episode there’s a family where either the husband or wife is desperate to move to Oz or New Zealand for a ‘better life’. Sometimes it’s based on previous visits but usually they’ve watched a bit of Home and Away and are convinced they can buy a 4 bed beach house with pool for £100,000 and get 5 times their salary for half the hours.

The show sends them to their chosen place for a week where they sample various elements of life (meet potential employers, go on days out) before making a decision about whether to move or not at the end.

My fave bits are the hi-tech flag twizzling (you’ll see what I mean if you watch it) and the guilt triply videos from the family back in the UK they make them watch.

It’s must see tv Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/09/2018 18:49

I had to stop watching that because it's so ridiculous, and the turny twizzling thing made me want to kill them all.

Deathraystare · 23/09/2018 08:46

Mm I like the border patrol/airport security kind of things. It does make me laugh how people try to deny coming in with drugs. I remember one episode where a woman wore a very badly fitting wig - so many drugs underneath it stood right up! And all those who have not indicated they have food items and most of their packing is excluded food items. They claim not to understand ignoring the fact they had filled in a card in their own language saying no food items.

Deathraystare · 23/09/2018 08:57

Oh and I sometimes watch 4 in a bed. Have only just got into it. It is about 4 bnb's. People stay at each others' places and then pass comments. They had over whatever they feel they should pay. Normally it seems those who hold back some cash/are very opinionated get very upset when they get bad reviews back.

ingenvillvetavardukoptdintroja · 26/09/2018 10:53

How clean is your house is on YouTube! Hours of entertainment

dingdongdigeridoo · 26/09/2018 18:34

Wanted Down Under is amazing. I love the guilt trip videos too. “We will miss you everyday and your leaving will hasten my death. Oh but you must do what’s best for your family.” All said with a sad face.

And it’s fun to see people who’ve not visited a country, let alone spent 5 minutes doing some research online, becoming increasingly twitchy as they realise Australia is fucking expensive!
