People of Mumsnet, please can you tell me when I can expect to get drawn in by Downton Abbey? I'm at episode 3 and feeling underwhelmed, maybe I'm still mourning Greys Anatomy and it's too soon for a new series... sigh....

episodes 5/6/7 of series one did it for me.
Series two was more dramatic and more interesting too in my opinion

There is hope yet. It all seems a bit 'meh' and slow so far. Characters quite rambling...

It is possible that it's just not your thing.

No worries! It is slow at times and I think when you end up getting into it depends on who your favourite characters are. For example if your favourite character is Lady Edith, her story doesn't pick up until series 2 so you might be in for a wait with some of them!

I really want to enjoy it! I'm sitting tight and hoping for the best.

Yes, but I didn't get into series 1 at all to be fair! And I love a period drama.

I started watching at series 2 and got hooked right in, and then went back and watched series 1 and really enjoyed it.

I'm loving Lady Sybil. Struggling to understand the dynamics of the house staff currently...

I’m watching it on prime.

I prefer s1 the pre ww1 costumes etc.

The Mary/Matthew on/off dragged on for too long.

And the writers killed off too many key characters!

I also think it’s hard to follow when so much time passes between episodes.

Just watched episodes 1 to 3 of s1 tonight and was hooked immediately.

I was mourning finishing Outlander so decided to start on Dowton. I like it!

Try Outlander if Dowton not your thing 😀

It still feels slow and tame but actually quite endearing. More hot chocolate than espresso...

Season 2 is brillIant, every character becomes multi dimensional and the story 'weaves' a lot more
