DD (13) and I are about to embark on watching it all. DS 8 overheard us and wants to watch as well. It's been years since I watched it. Is 8 too young?

I would say that's too young, though I haven't watched it since the 90s. I remember it being quite creepy sometimes, and there's definitely some sex.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/07/2018 21:04

Weirdly I waychdon’t d an episode I found at about 5am this morning. I’d say too young.

Butterymuffin · 25/07/2018 21:04

8 is too young IMO.

Confused random autocorrect

I was watching around age 9 so...

Kingkiller · 25/07/2018 21:05

Far too young. I'm a big fan, but won't even let dd 12 watch it yet. Not because of the scary stuff but because of the adult themes, particularly in the later series.

NoSquirrels · 25/07/2018 21:07

It gets much more adult-themed as the series go, so 8 is too young IMO. How will you explain the Angel/Angelus sex stuff etc? I’d wait, if I were you.

goldopals · 25/07/2018 21:07

I was only a little bit older when I first watched it in the nineties. I had nightmares after watching the first vampire claw it's way out of the ground. Wait a few years

cloudtree · 25/07/2018 21:08

Its a 15 so no. Too much adult stuff.

myrtleWilson · 25/07/2018 21:11

I'll be the bad parent here (although no Band Candy consumed) we probably had a rewatch when DD was about 8 and she loved it and coped fine. We've done at least one more rewatch since then... She's 15 now and still covers her eyes if there is a sex scene on tv. It depends on how much your 8yr old picks up on - will he just love the whizz bang nature of fighting baddies like cartoons or will he brood about the possibility of vampires in real life?

probatenovice · 25/07/2018 21:13

It's a 15? I checked and it seemed to be either unclassified or a 12... even conservative common sense media is saying 12/13...
I'll give it a miss then. Shame. Some good female heros and positive messages from what I remember.

Perhaps I'll just watch again in a few years fine!

12/13 maybe, but that's still not 8. Can't you and your oldest watch it after the 8yo is in bed?

whiskeysourpuss · 25/07/2018 21:23

A quick check on amazon shows a 15 rating by the bbfc but DS10 quite likes the odd episode - I've never actually seen the praying mantis episode think it's episode 3 of the first season cause I'm a big wuss when it comes to close up beasties Blush
