Horrendous 😮It looked like utter chaos - god knows how those prison officers can do that job

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 19/07/2018 22:18

its one of those programmes you think should trigger real change

staydazzling · 19/07/2018 23:35

watching now very well done doc.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 19/07/2018 23:39

I want so badly to watch this . But i a huge level of apprehension..
Hopefully a Cathy Come Home type of situation will arise.
Every system is breaking down or has broken down. It is bloody worrying.SadAngry

staydazzling · 19/07/2018 23:55

ive never been usually a 'prisons a bloody holiday' type person but its a joke, revolving door of drug users bouncing about with 3 phones up their arse, nowhere near enough staff to inmate ratio, no control, no rehabilitation, comparatively I also watched the channel 5 worlds toughests prisons, these plastic gangsters would be dead in 10 minutes.

Dulra · 20/07/2018 08:33

Was shocked from start to finish. Absolute chaos. No chance of any rehabilitation while in there in fact the opposite would happen you'd go in clean and come out an addict. Inmates were definitely in control. The governor saying you win some battles you lose some well you seem to be losing them all! I did think the programme makers glamorised the Inmates with the music and editing making them out to be some sort of peaky blinder characters.

It did raise big questions over locking up drug addicts over and over what is the point? Things need to change because what they're doing is not working

blackbunny · 20/07/2018 11:19

Am I on my own wondering how it is even possible to fit 3 phones up your arse, please enlighten me?

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 20/07/2018 14:09

Blackbunny that blew my mind as well!🙈 I have good friend who's a police officer and she told me about a suspect they searched before putting in a cell and he had two phones and a charger up there!! 😮

MrsJayy · 20/07/2018 16:46

It was truly depressing that Michael had been in and out of jail since he was 15 he was just in a cycle of it thing is this is their normal. the prison officers had no real authourity they knew that drugs ruled them.

One of my Dc is a police officer and apparently it is quite surprising what they store up their arse Shock

4forkssake · 20/07/2018 20:17

Sad state of affairs. I know some of the prison officers on the show & they have a crap job (I'm sure not just at HMP Durham). Also know people who work in the schools some of these inmates went to & they're not surprised they're staying at HM pleasure! So some of them were definitely handed an inevitable ticket to stay here at a very young (primary) age.

MrsJayy · 20/07/2018 20:22

If it starts in primary which I can quite believe what chance have they got Sad

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 20/07/2018 21:07

What about the one who had an 8" blade up there? How on earth did that not do some serious damage?

It was just containment and no more, a free for all. Very depressing for everyone concerned and as pp said, more chance of encouraging a life of crime than any rehabilitation.

The use of an inmate as pure sport by getting him unsuspectingly 'spiced' that was awful.

I was shocked that it was all allowed to be filmed.

SunnySomer · 21/07/2018 08:26

Enrique I would imagine if you’re running HMPPS and are absolutely failing to get the message across to your elected bosses that running prisons on a constantly decreasing budget is both not manageable and not sustainable, then a good quality, honest documentary that depicts the reality is a very appealing thing to do.

DeadBod · 26/07/2018 21:49

Is anyone watching tonight, the focus is on mental health? Some of those prisoners shouldn't be there, it's really not the right place for them Sad

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 26/07/2018 21:53

sad tonight isnt it ?

OP posts:
furlinedsheepskinjacket · 26/07/2018 21:56

why wasn't he sectioned fgs?

OP posts:
Dulra · 26/07/2018 21:58

Yeah watching. God love James so so sad. Really feel for the staff too Sad

No idea how the young lad will survive out of prison

MrsJayy · 26/07/2018 21:59

I am recording it, the mental health services /provisons are shocking in this country prisons are fit to burst with people.

DeadBod · 26/07/2018 22:02

Poor James Sad
I really hope Chris gets the help that he both wants and needs. He is far to vulnerable to be let out and left to fend for himself.

SealSong · 26/07/2018 22:07

Poor James, so sad.
Prisons are full of people who should be in psychiatric hospitals, but there are literally no beds. I work in mental heath services and see on a daily basis how devastatingly underfunded they are, despite the hollow promises of government.

SealSong · 26/07/2018 22:10

Why wasn't he sectioned OP? Probably because he was taking his medication, there was a psychiatric bed arranged (but didn't come quick enough) and from what we saw in the programme (granted not the whole picture I am sure) there was no indication that he was suicidal.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 26/07/2018 22:47

he seemed to relapse slightly though...?

OP posts:
flopsyrabbit1 · 26/07/2018 23:07

God that really saddened and shocked me about james,so polite and friendly,he should of been sectioned when he went down hill

Actually that has upset me RIP james
