Been watching it and it was scary in places. Hopefully the law will change now for the better and more people sent to prison.

800 children killed or injured on UK roads every year. We should all be up in arms - it is truly shocking, but just doesn't make the front pages. I have signed a couple of petitions on-line about speeding drivers, but I don't think there is the political will in this country to take speeding seriously.

Mercy · 25/05/2007 20:11

I'm not watching it but I know that the UK has the worst record for child pedestrian car related deaths in western Europe.

Mercy · 25/05/2007 20:16

3littlefrogs, completely agree.

We live in a road with a 20mph limit (school is in a residential one way street). It is ignored totally. In fact people speed to get over the humps.

The figures for car related deaths witrh regard to pedestrians are atrocious

3littlefrogs · 25/05/2007 20:26

Could MN have a petition, or something? I think this is a topic that all parents would support.

charliecat · 25/05/2007 21:50

Good idea...no idea how to go about it though. All they wanted was a speed camera and for anyone that refused to stick to the limit it would have added revenue to the pot??!!! Whats the problem with putting on in. And the amount of ARSING about for a sign. Consultations, meeting. FFS just put a sign up saying SCHOOL SLOW DOWN. How hard???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Local village near here have just attached a plain yellow rectangular sign to a lamp post, so from a distance it looks like a speed camera. It is working well. Officially you need planning permission for any sign, but there is no way the authorities are going to dare ask them to take it down when they are refusing to give them a real camera.
