I didn't go to university, but my sons did and I've seen some appalling accomodation. It's not all massive kitchens.
Mind, my DS2 had an amazing view of the sea from one of his student rooms.

I used to have sheep come up to my bedroom window when I was in my 3rd year halls. Ground floor room, backed onto the car park (not many of us had card back then, fortunately for the sheep)- the sheep regularly came off the field to say hello.

Can be quite unnerving first thing in the morning.
