If you were to recommend Desperate Housewives...

My DP and I tend to binge watch and enjoy the same things, but I've seen him recoil at the 'reputation' of DH.

For full disclosure he loved Devious Maids, but this is a little more 'long game soap' iyswim

I do feel like it's been tainted by the media and things write it off without giving it a chance. What would you say about it? Smile

Eva Longoria is amazing in it!

PippilottaLongstocking · 21/05/2018 01:10

Just on here after watching an episode or three, I’m not much of a tv watcher and I love it. We’re six episodes away from the end of the final season and I have no idea what I’m going to do with my evenings when it’s over, I feel like I’m genuinely going to miss the characters.

MakeItStopNeville · 21/05/2018 02:55

We're talking about Desperate Housewives circa 2005, right?! I have always loved that show. The moment Lynette admits she can't cope with all her kids was one of the pivotal moments in tv for me. She remained my favorite character for the entire run. I'm feeling a binge watch coming on for me too!

angelopal · 22/05/2018 18:20

I loved it and DH secretly liked it too but would deny watching if asked.

If you both like devious maids then you will like desperate housewives.

Lynette was my favorite to.

FunBunHun · 22/05/2018 18:31

Crazy ex girlfriend

Unbreakable kimmy schmidt

The affair

Modern families

Chottie · 22/05/2018 22:41

I liked Lynette best too, all those children and all their names began with the letter P.

Procrastination4 · 22/05/2018 23:37

I absolutely loved Desperate Housewives-watched it from the very beginning until the very last episode (Terrestrial TV so it was over a few years rather than binge fest). I tried watching Devious Maids as it was supposed to be similar-No! I far targeted Desperate Housewives!

Procrastination4 · 22/05/2018 23:38

Rathered, not targeted!

dogzdinner · 22/05/2018 23:41

I enjoyed devious maids but Desperate housewives is much better.

gluteustothemaximus · 22/05/2018 23:41

I bloody loved Desperate Housewives. The acting and storylines are superb.

DH watched them all with me. He says he watched it for me, but I know he loved it too!

I want to watch it all again now!

TheClitterati · 22/05/2018 23:43

Ooh are they all up on Netflix? I could do with a good DH binge.

gluteustothemaximus · 22/05/2018 23:50

It’s on amazon prime!! Woohoo, I’m off...

HelenaDove · 23/05/2018 01:43

YY spookytime The scenes with Gabby (Eva Longoria) and Carlos were fab.

MiddleClassProblem · 23/05/2018 01:45

I think if he gives season one a go he’ll enjoy the creepy mystery.

Bubba1234 · 24/05/2018 07:47

It’s just great 👍I started to rewatch last year and I keep forgetting what episode I finished at I want ya I get back into this and greys anatomy

Pfftlife · 24/05/2018 07:53

Funny to see this thread, I started rewatching it a few nights ago and I'm loving it........my husband not so much 😐 but meh we can't both love all the same things.

Susan rips my knitting though, I want to give her a shake

kikashi · 24/05/2018 12:33

Much, much better than devious maids. The problem might be that none of the main characters is that likeable (IMHO)

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 24/05/2018 12:56

I only bought every season on DVD as soon as it came out because DW likes it. I absolutely hated every minute of it. Honestly. All three times. Wink

PlausibleSuit · 24/05/2018 13:00

Start at the beginning. It got glossier and trashier as it went on IMO. Yes, it's soapy, but in an arch, tongue-in-cheek kind of way. There's a bitter tang to all that lemonade.

The writing in those early seasons can be whip-smart. Eva Longoria's comic timing is outstanding. There are some great, sometimes ground-breaking characters: Lynette, Gaby, Carlos, Andrew van de Kamp, Orson Hodge, Betty Applewhite. Mrs Landringham from the West Wing is in it, as is Bebe Glazer from Frasier.

Yes, everyone dresses beautifully, the sun always shines and no male character under 30 owns a shirt. Bree takes a season or two to get truly awesome. But it's more involving than you'd think and certainly worth a go.

gluteustothemaximus · 24/05/2018 15:21

I started watching it again starting from the beginning.

Lynnette is brilliant. Having gone from career woman to say at home mom, when Tom says he's too tired for a night out, and she's desperate for a night out he says 'come on, you remember what it's like to work a 60 hour week'

And my blood hit boiling temperature on her behalf!!!

MissionItsPossible · 24/05/2018 15:58

Seasons 1 to 4 are amazing. Seasons 5 to 8 are okay.

Desperate Housewives could easily have a reboot given the final scene in the very last episode.

welshmist · 25/05/2018 22:25

I wish it was on Netflix, just dont want to be paying for amazon as well.

gluteustothemaximus · 25/05/2018 23:13

Welsh - get a 30 day free trial and binge watch it Grin
