I've had a look on search and I can't see any thread on this already would be really interested in others thoughts.

It's about how the CIA and FBI fucked up on the way to 9/11.

There's an awful character in it who was apparently based on a real woman named Alfreda Bikowksky.

The same woman is also the basis for the heroine in Zero Dark Thirty and she's very much the hero in that but in this series she's so much the real villain that the whole series could just as well have been 10 hours of various FBI agents and survivors pointing at her and screaming

Anyone else find this show really made them think?

Not heard of this, but the premise seems to be something I'd want to watch.

Thanks for the heads up.

I'll come back and update when I get around to watching.

It's really good Chaos, it stars Jeff Daniels from Newsroom and shows how many people knew Bin Laden was planning something but chains of command just thwarted them at every turn. It very clearly illustrates that 9/11 was preventable.

I just finished watching the show based on your Recommendation, OP. Loved it! And it was so.... disturbing as well? What a colossal fuck up by the FBI and the CIA.

Ooo I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, disturbing is the word such a shocking irony regarding the main character too

It is just madness that the woman responsible basically got off with it and got to testify anonymously due to her being undercover

I thought The Looming Tower was fascinating- I'm guessing series 2 will take up events from where they left off. I was tapping away on Wikipedia as I watched to check all the people and events to see if they were real or just to enhance the storytelling. It seems everything is pretty close to the book/real timeline. I remember the investigation in to the events and knew there had been a lack of communication that allowed the attackers to get through, but the complexity of it is scary.
Is the woman you mean the red-haired one from Alex Station? I listened to this podcast, 'Covert' podtail.com/en/podcast/covert/1-killing-bin-laden-part-1/ which is a really interesting account of the military operation to capture and kill Bin Laden (like zero dark 30) and I'm pretty sure she is interviewed in it.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 01/07/2018 15:30

I’m thinking there won’t be a series two as the tower no longer looms and the next part of the story is covered by Zero Dark Thirty, but yes I mean the red haired woman and a lot of the tweets and stuff I’ve raised have praised the series for treating her as villain not hero

"It is just madness that the woman responsible basically got off with it and got to testify anonymously due to her being undercover"

It made my blood boil! All those lies, and no one could question her.

Ooh, I've got this recorded to watch (BBC2).

Wasn't sure whether to bother or not. Looks like I should...
