Is anyone watching The Rain? It's really good - probably for fans of The Walking Dead and The 100. It's dubbed into English but you get used to that after a while. Someone else watch it so we can talk....

Oh I watched the first episode, changed the settings so that it was in danish but subtitled in English, but I’m afraid I couldn’t get into it and I normally like apocalyptic dramas (not so much YA).

Found The New Legends of Monkey instead which we love.
Should I persevere? Does it get better?

Tigresswoods · 10/05/2018 21:37

Before the titles even started I was terrified!!!

chickensaresafehere · 11/05/2018 10:19

I love all things apocalyptic (probably stems from reading 'The Stand' at 13!!). I'm 2 episodes in & enjoying it.
I changed the audio to Danish & watch it with subtitles too, can't be doing with dubbed dialogue.

raisinsraisins · 11/05/2018 17:38

Although the dubbing is a bit distracting, I still prefer it to the subtitles. I read that most the actors speak English so did their own dubbing, which makes a difference. On episode 6 now.....

Loved it.
Hopefully season 2 soon.

Brokit · 11/05/2018 18:14

Watched episode one last night as DS recommended it. We do like a good post apocalyptic drama. I thought it was very slow and ended up fast forwarding. Does it get better?
I watched the dubbed version as I hate sub titles.

Ledkr · 11/05/2018 18:59

Oooo we are going to start this tonight now I know it's dubbed. Subtitles annoy me can't mumsnet

Brokit · 11/05/2018 19:05

Ledkr I've tried really hard with subtitles and feel I've probably missed some great TV because I can't stand them. I didn't know you could choose dubbing on Netflix. Unfortunately it's not available on everything, I started watching Occupied which is Norwegian and it's a good series but only available with subtitles.

Curlyshabtree · 11/05/2018 19:08

Loved The Rain. Didn’t realise you could choose subtitles, the dubbing annoyed me!

noblegiraffe · 11/05/2018 19:11

Watched 2 episodes and not especially gripped. Does it get more exciting?

TheSecondOfHerName · 11/05/2018 19:12

I watched it with subtitles as I find dubbing distracting.

In the first episode I found it very frustrating that the two children were endangering the lives of themselves and their parents.

Spoilers for episode 1...

At ten years old, Rasmus was quite old enough to know that you don't unfasten your seatbelt on the motorway.

At seventeen (?) Simone was old enough to understand why she should not have opened the bunker door.

I found myself pitying the parents for having those two as children, which is probably not what was intended.

TheSecondOfHerName · 11/05/2018 19:14

Episode 2 was slightly better than episode 1, but I'm not sure I'll keep going with it.

It's nowhere near as good as Dark (German series also on Netflix).

Jigglyguff · 11/05/2018 19:29

I tried watching earlier. I managed the first episode then gave up. The boy is more annoying and useless than the two kids in Jurassic park combined and the girl is not much better.

Thingvellir · 11/05/2018 19:34

I'm watching! On ep 4 now. The first 30 mins of ep 1 were unbelievably frustrating and made me feel sick with anxiety, but it got better and was hooked by the end of ep 1.

I wanted to punch the girl in the face initially - who turns up late for a group exam - so rude and stressful for her class mates! And she was so annoying when she couldn't grasp what was happening and opened the hatch etc. It was more tension than I could take, but she got better Wink

Stickywhitelovepiss · 12/05/2018 08:23

Why are they fighting for food? Like in The Stand, with 99% suddenly dead there would be tons of food in shops and warehouses for the taking.

IWantMyHatBack · 12/05/2018 08:26

Because its 6 years later and there's nothing left!

I watched the whole thing. Thought it started off well, but tailed off too much. The end was ridiculous, and I found it very predictable .

Wait until you get to crazy cult House

Stickywhitelovepiss · 12/05/2018 08:33

But even in 6 years a tiny fraction of the remaining population couldn’t have cleared all the food in Copenhagen?

(Possibly overthinking this)

Agreed Dark is superb and much better.
I binge watched it over two days and I never do that.

IWantMyHatBack · 12/05/2018 14:48

In one of the later episodes they said they everybody went to Copenhagen to try to find food. If wasn't just the city, it seems it was all of Denmark and lots of Sweden too.

Copenhagen is tiny as well

IWantMyHatBack · 12/05/2018 14:53

God, that made no sense.

I meant that it wasn't just the city affected by the rain.

GuiltyFeminist · 13/05/2018 07:07

Oh I love and hate it at the same time. I just find that they haven't thought any of the story through!
How can they run through wet leaves but not a puddle? How can they drink water but not touch it? How can they not have worked out how to grow food in 6 years? The list is endless

IWantMyHatBack · 13/05/2018 09:43

Yes! How can they go outside after the rain when everything is still damp.

Also, plot was kind of obvious as soon as mum died.

cushioncovers · 13/05/2018 20:20

I watched it, the dubbing was annoying and some of the acting was dubious but overall I enjoyed it.

thenightsky · 13/05/2018 20:36

I've only been watching for 10 mins and I'm already annoyed with bratty child who is old enough to know not to take his seatbelt off. Angry

Rollergirl11 · 16/05/2018 21:33

We are still persevering but don’t know why as we think it’s utterly shit! All of the characters are irritating as fuck and someone does something retarded in every episode. I don’t know how any of them are still alive.
